The Role

The Engineering Manager, Property Management will lead the team that owns the core platform capabilities powering property management workflows across TheGuarantors including core property and address data models, property-level integrations and data sync, and the services and APIs that downstream product teams rely on for leasing, renewals, and operational tooling.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone accountable for the team’s technical outcomes, not just its output. You will own architecture and design decisions, uphold engineering excellence, drive predictable delivery, and develop the engineers on your team, while keeping the platform primitives your team owns rock-solid for every team that depends on them. We're looking for someone who leads through technical judgment: driving design reviews, shaping architecture, and bringing deep expertise in databases and distributed backend systems.

You will own the technical outcomes and delivery of the Property Management team, its architecture, data models, integrations, and production reliability. This includes guiding technical design for core property, address, unit, and operator/company data models; leading integrations and data pipelines with external Property Management Systems; ensuring a strong developer experience for teams consuming your APIs; and maintaining on-call and runbook ownership for key property-domain production flows and data correctness issues.

Location This is a hybrid role based in NYC

What You’ll Do

  • Own and guide architecture and design decisions for core property, address, unit, and operator/company data models, ensuring they remain scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with business goals.
  • Provide technical direction for integrations and data pipelines with external Property Management Systems (sync flows, mapping, reconciliation, observability).
  • Balance speed, quality, and long-term sustainability when making technical tradeoffs, and proactively identify risks, dependencies, and technical debt.
  • Establish and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, reliability, and security across the team’s Go, React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL codebase.
  • Ensure code and design reviews are high-quality and constructive, and continuously improve team processes and tooling.
  • Translate business goals into actionable technical plans, help the team scope and sequence work, and be accountable for predictable, sustainable delivery end-to-end from requirements through production support.
  • Maintain on-call and runbook ownership for key property-domain production flows, lead technical response during major incidents, and drive root cause analysis through to resolution.
  • Improve developer experience for teams consuming your platform via stable contracts, clear documentation, and backward-compatible migrations.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, promote documentation and knowledge sharing, and foster a culture of healthy technical debate.
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, other Engineering Managers, and peer teams, and keep your Director of Engineering informed of delivery risk and significant technical or team health concerns.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading a team as a Tech Lead, Tech Lead Manager, or Engineering Manager. A strong prior track record as a senior/staff-level backend engineer.
  • Strong technical judgment, with hands-on experience in fullstack development (Go, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Strong database fluency: schema design, query performance, scaling strategies, and operational characteristics of relational and/or NoSQL systems
  • Experience owning data models, APIs, or platform primitives that other teams depend on as a source of truth.
  • Experience with event-driven systems and data pipelines (Kafka/Redpanda) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes).
  • A track record of building high-performing teams that deliver reliable, business-critical systems.
  • Strong execution skills, including risk management, prioritization, and driving accountability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfort operating in a high-growth environment with ambiguity and competing priorities.

Benefits

  • Opportunities to make an impact within a fast growing company
  • Medical, dental, & vision insurance, beginning day one
  • Health savings account with employer contribution
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Flexible working hours
  • 401(k)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Company sponsored short and long term disability
  • Flexible spending accounts (healthcare, dependent care, commuter)
  • Competitive salary
