Overview

THE ROLE:

Tests, analyzes, and selects materials for packaging based on durability, and production line compatibilities. Support in Designs and optimizes product packaging to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and other conditions. Maintain continual improvement activities to ensure existing packaging quality. Design and “hands on” experience with a variety of packaging concepts/ practices and procedures.

Experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May participate/lead activities with diverse projects relating to packaging engineering and value. Implementing actions to ensure desired results are achieved w/efficiency. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:

  • Core expectations include meeting/exceeding customer service/ quality requirements/operating objectives/ improvement.
  • Ability to function in a regulated environment maintaining and continuously improving packaging operations pursuant to corporate guidelines and policies.
  • Works closely with Contract Manufacturers for resolution and long-term solutions for Packaging

component and equipment interaction issues, line efficiencies, and continual improvement activities

  • Conduct failure investigations and root cause analysis for product complaints, plant and supplier issues.
  • Writes packaging validation protocols and reports for the qualification of new packaging or packaging revisions.
  • Provide design concepts/technical support to Manufacturing/Sourcing/R&D and Quality groups related to the production and packaging of Herbalife products.
  • Works closely with Manufacturing Ops, Quality and Sourcing
  • Manages packaging development and improvement projects to meet Regional Regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies new technologies within the organization with current packaging industry innovations.
  • Generates/reviews and approves product engineering change orders/packaging process changes/packaging related requirements. Ensures Product Life Cycle Management system is maintained and current for all packaging related specifications.
  • Works closely with and consults w/suppliers for the development/continual improvement of packaging for components and materials
  • Supports supplier audits.
  • Accurately maintain Packaging compliance documentation/records to meet corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Designs product packaging for integrity and transportation robustness following ASTM/ISO/Local-regional guidelines accordingly.
  • Independently plan, execute, and analyze plant trials.
  • Establish strong working relationship with key production facility functional groups and stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of packaging and production line changes.
  • Conduct in-depth technical feasibility assessments on packaging design, including sustainability impact, supply chain, manufacturing, cost drivers, and consumer impact.
  • High level of creativity and independence in the design and development of new and or improved packaging processes, systems/prototypes and projects

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

Skills

  • Experience in packaging engineering design w/ structured problem solving/use of statistical tools.
  • Good written and oral Communication skills with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective communications, internally and with external manufacturing partners at all levels.
  • CAD experience a plus but not mandatory
  • Self-driven with initiative/creativity and ability to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Results-Success oriented, being agile and flexible with ability to manage and motivate during continuous change.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7-13 years of experience with Packaging/ Packaging material Manufacturing, and/or Plant Engineering
  • Training and experience in Lean and Six Sigma, or equivalent desired and/or exposure to concepts of Six Sigma, TPM, OEE and other Lean Manufacturing tools desired
  • Product Manufacturing Experience in Food/Dietary Supplement/Pharmaceuticals, working in a cGMP complaint-regulatory environment.
  • Familiar-working knowledge with ASTM/ISO/FDA CAPA and Qualification-Validation/Audit procedures

Education:

  • Bachelors/ PG in Packaging Engineering/Packaging Science/Mechanical, Industrial-Engineering or equivalent, Master’s degree is a plus.
