Job Summary

The Lead Building Mechanical Engineering role leads a team of engineers in developing HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler calculations for various building projects. The role interprets mechanical, plumbing, building, and fire codes to ensure compliance with industry standards. The role is involved with sizing ductwork, plumbing, and fire sprinkler distribution systems, and selecting appropriate equipment. The role oversees the drafting and modeling of these systems using AutoCAD and Revit software, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Additionally, the role develops specifications for HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler equipment in Word and Speclink. The role reviews drawings and specifications, coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration and project success.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all activities performed by the team of individual contributors in building mechanical engineering.
  • Ensure that the team properly interprets mechanical, plumbing, building, and fire codes accurately.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines in reviewing HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler drawings/specifications.
  • Leverage software tools to draft and model HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler systems.
  • Develop specifications for HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler equipment using suitable software tools.
  • Hold the responsibility for achieving unit objectives as set by upper management.
  • Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering a culture of engagement, growth, and accountability.
  • Oversee workload planning, performance management, and team operations to align resources with business objectives while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent leadership skills in managing a team of individual contributors.
  • Proficiency in using software tools for drafting, modelling and developing specifications for HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler systems.
  • Proficient in interpreting mechanical, plumbing, building, and fire codes and NFPA standards.
  • Exceptional skills in coordinating with other engineering disciplines.

Experience

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of building mechanical engineering or related experience.
  • Typically certified in Brown and Caldwell's Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies.

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field or equivalent experience is required.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $117,000 - $159,000 Location B: $128,000 - $175,000 Location C: $140,000 - $191,000
