Full description

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Electrical Project Manager to lead large-scale electrical construction projects throughout the Detroit area. Projects include hospitals, healthcare facilities, universities, institutional buildings, and other complex commercial developments.

This position requires a Project Manager with direct experience working for a commercial electrical contractor or self-performing electrical construction company. You will take ownership of projects from preconstruction turnover through final closeout, managing financial performance, labor planning, procurement, scheduling, field coordination, and client relationships.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of commercial electrical construction with proven project leadership and financial management skills. This role is well suited for someone who can independently manage complex projects, coordinate field and office teams, and consistently deliver successful results.

Responsibilities• Manage large-scale commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction turnover through final completion and closeout.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, manpower plans, procurement strategies, budgets, and execution plans.
  • Manage project financials, including budgets, cost forecasts, billing, committed costs, labor productivity, change orders, and profitability.
  • Coordinate superintendents, foremen, electricians, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, general contractors, and internal project teams.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, schedules, and other construction documents.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, material procurement, project documentation, and closeout requirements.
  • Collaborate with estimating teams to ensure a successful transition from preconstruction and a clear understanding of project scope.
  • Coordinate with BIM/VDC teams to support constructability, clash resolution, prefabrication, and efficient field installation.
  • Lead project meetings and maintain consistent communication with owners, general contractors, design teams, inspectors, and company leadership.
  • Monitor labor productivity, manpower requirements, material availability, schedules, and project costs throughout construction.
  • Identify potential schedule, labor, material, coordination, and financial risks and implement solutions before they impact project performance.
  • Support field leadership by providing timely information, resources, materials, and decisions necessary to maintain production.
  • Ensure projects meet established safety, quality, schedule, financial, and customer satisfaction objectives.
  • Manage punch-list activities, commissioning coordination, project documentation, and final turnover.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, vendors, and project partners.
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience in commercial electrical construction.
  • Direct experience working for a commercial electrical contractor or self-performing electrical construction company is required.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation methods, construction sequencing, manpower planning, and field operations.
  • Proven ability to independently manage electrical projects from startup through final closeout.
  • Strong experience with project budgeting, cost forecasting, billing, procurement, labor productivity, change orders, and profitability.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and construction schedules.
  • Experience developing and managing manpower plans, project schedules, procurement strategies, and cost projections.
  • Proven ability to coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, general contractors, and internal departments.
  • Experience working with estimating and BIM/VDC teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong financial accountability with the ability to identify and address project risks proactively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Experience with healthcare, hospitals, higher education, institutional facilities, or other large-scale commercial projects is strongly preferred.
