Description:

We are seeking a Payroll Analyst who thrives in a fast-paced environment to join our Payroll Team. The candidate is motivated to learn and adapt in a complex payroll environment with multiple payroll runs regularly, producing large volume of data for accounting entries and reconciliations. This role acts as a business partner within the Finance team to provide meaningful insights and analytics to operations on payroll accounting inquiries and variances. The Payroll Analyst has a sound knowledge of payroll processing to provide backup and support to payroll administrators and to the Payroll and Benefits Manager.

Responsibilities

Payroll Accounting

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate posting of payroll accounting entries into our ERP system, Dynamics 365 - Finance and Operations, including accruals and reclass entries.
  • Work with large datasets from Dayforce to dissect and interpret accounting entries.
  • Reconcile payroll balance sheet accounts and analyze payroll expense accounts. Reconcile payroll data, deductions, taxable benefits, and remittances.
  • Review payroll transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal and provincial legislation.

Finance Support

  • Support the Accounting team and operations by directly addressing inquiries about payroll costs and providing sound business explanations for variances as compared to budgets and/or forecasts.
  • Work closely with the Financial Planning & Analysis teams to understand payroll budgets.

Process Improvements

  • Work with Dayforce and Dynamics 365 to assist in producing KPIs and assist in developing specific management accounting and ad-hoc reports.
  • Explore opportunities for process and system enhancements of our current payroll systems for better integration of payroll data flowing into Dynamics 365 and general payroll processing enhancements.
  • Participate in payroll system testing, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Document payroll procedures and contribute to best practices for data integrity and compliance.

Payroll Processing

  • Support the accurate and timely processing of payroll for salaried, hourly, and multi-provincial employees.
  • Assist the payroll team in administering and maintaining the employee group benefit plan, and ensuring complete and timely filing and payments are maintained for all provincial statutory auditsfrom federal and provincial governments as well as external financial statements audits.
  • Provide backup support in payroll processing when required and complete other ad hoc tasks as assigned.

Role Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Payroll, Accounting and/or Finance
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset
  • 2-3 years of experience in payroll processing, with Dayforce experience an asset
  • 2-3 years of accounting experience for posting journal entries and reconciling G/L accounts
  • Relevant industry experience, working in a large-scale multi-entity and multi-site location organization is an asset
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, federal and provincial payroll taxes/remittances and payroll audits
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Experience working with large datasets to provide payroll analytics using Microsoft Excel analytical skills of extracting key relevant data
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with Finance and Operations
