Kubernetes Tech Lead

Kubernetes Tech Lead

Build and operate TDC NET’s bare-metal Kubernetes platforms from the ground up — setting the standard for how containers, multi-tenancy, and self-service infrastructure work at telco scale.

TDC NET is going through one of the largest transformation and modernization phases in its long history. This is an opportunity to revamp and shape TDC NET’s vast estate from the ground up as TDC positions itself to become a leading technology provider.

About the job

As Workload (Kubernetes/Containerization) Lead, you will own the design, build, and operation of TDC NET’s container platforms, with a focus on bare-metal, sovereign, and open-source Kubernetes. You will set standards for multi-cluster operations, security, and reliability, and drive a platform engineering mindset that enables product teams to ship fast and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the Kubernetes platform strategy — designing, building, and operating unmanaged/vanilla clusters on bare metal across TDC NET’s data centers.
  • Define and enforce multi-tenancy, isolation, and security standards: namespace design, network policies, RBAC, resource quotas, Pod Security Standards, and supply-chain security.
  • Architect and maintain cluster lifecycle management and multi-cluster operations (e.g. Cluster API, Rancher, ArgoCD, Flux).
  • Develop and maintain custom Helm charts, reusable platform templates, and self-service interfaces for internal consumers.
  • Deliver deep integration between Kubernetes and underlying infrastructure — CNI (Calico/Cilium), storage (Rook/Ceph), and bare-metal provisioning.
  • Build observability across control plane and data plane — enabling teams to debug complex issues end-to-end using logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Collaborate with compute, storage, network, and SRE teams to ensure platform reliability, performance, and automation.
  • Champion DevOps culture, GitOps workflows, and cloud-native design patterns across the organization.

"This role offers the chance to define how BareMetal Kubernetes is built, operated, and consumed across TDC NET — creating the foundation for modern application delivery, platform engineering, and cloud-native operations at scale." says Manasa Nelamane Sathyanarayan, Senior Manager of IT Core Platforms

About you

You have deep Kubernetes expertise and understand the technology beyond the surface. You are passionate about building reliable, secure, and scalable platforms that empower teams to innovate faster. You think like a platform engineer, balancing automation, self-service, and operational excellence while keeping the developer experience at the center.

You take ownership, communicate clearly, and enjoy collaborating across teams to solve complex challenges. Most importantly, you take pride in building platforms that enable others to succeed.

Core Skills

  • Proficient in scripting and infrastructure automation languages, such as at least one of: Python, Bash, PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible.
  • Experience in other languages (Rust, Java, Go, C/C++/C#) is also valued for highly qualified candidates.
  • Experience supporting and coordinating technical engineers in cross-functional IT teams, ensuring smooth collaboration.
  • Experience working with distributed and remote teams (for example in India), including aligning ways of working, time zones and communication to ensure efficient delivery.
  • Ability to communicate clearly at all levels of the organisation – from engineers to senior management – and to manage expectations and relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

This you combine with:

  • Extensive experience building, operating, and upgrading unmanaged/vanilla Kubernetes platforms — not only managed cloud services. Experience with Talos.
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes networking: CNI experience (Calico, Cilium, or Flannel), VLANs, underlay/overlay concepts, and Multus for multi-homed pod networking.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with isolation and multi-tenancy: namespace design, network policies, RBAC, resource quotas, limit ranges, and multi-tenant cluster governance.
  • Ability to debug complex issues across Kubernetes control plane, data plane, and running applications.
  • Experience with Rook/Ceph storage integration and cloud-native storage patterns for Kubernetes.
  • Some knowledge of virtualization (KVM via KubeVirt) and running VMs alongside containers on Kubernetes. Experience with XCP-ng, Harvester, or Rancher.
  • Familiarity with service mesh (Istio/Linkerd), ingress controllers (NGINX, HAProxy, Envoy), API gateways, and Kubernetes security best practices (image scanning, secrets management).
  • Commitment to open-source, open-standards, and sovereign (DK/EU) platforms — with a preference for self-hosted, vendor-neutral solutions.

Applicants must be eligible for security clearance.
