Overview
The Database Administrator oversees the design, implementation, operation, security, and integrity of production, non-production, and redundant database environments across cloud and on-premises implementations. This role will maintain reliable database services, guide database standards and strategy, support backup and recovery readiness, and advise technical and organizational leaders on database capabilities and improvements.
Responsibilities
- Oversees daily operations of production, non-production, and redundant database environments across internal and customer environments.
- Formulates and maintain database management policies, procedures, and standards, and monitor transaction activity and database utilization.
- Reviews database designs and system integrations and recommend enhancements or improvements.
- Develops, manages, and tests backup and recovery plans to confirm that procedures function properly.
- Maintains database security and integrity controls.Installs, configures, upgrades, patches, monitors, and troubleshoots PostgreSQL database environments.
- Optimizes PostgreSQL performance through query optimization, index strategy, vacuum and analyze tuning, and database parameter configuration.
- Administers Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora for PostgreSQL and supports database migration and data integration activities using AWS Database Migration Service and AWS Glue.
- Monitors database performance, resource utilization, availability, and operational health, and take appropriate corrective action.
- Collaborates effectively with architecture, engineering, security, and other stakeholders while organizing work for timely completion.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field from an accredited college or university and five or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and experience.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database administration, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching.
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL performance tuning, including query optimization, index strategy, vacuum and analyze tuning, and parameter configuration.
- Experience monitoring and troubleshooting PostgreSQL database performance, resource utilization, and availability.
- Experience administering Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora for PostgreSQL.
- Strong SQL development skills across online transaction processing and analytical data platforms.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and to follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to organize work for timely completion and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships.
- Experience with AWS Lake Formation and data lake deployment and administration.
- General understanding of Amazon Redshift architecture and service model, including role-based access control, user and group management, and security permissions.
- Experience with AWS Glue and AWS Database Migration Service.
- Database certification in PostgreSQL or Oracle preferred.
