This is a remote position.
The Senior CISCO Network Engineer will support the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on the agency's network operations and infrastructure contract. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is one of the largest Texas government agencies, with over 30,000 staff members located in approximately 100 offices across the State of Texas. The agency manages a diverse information technology infrastructure that includes mainframe, server, web, and cloud-based application systems, all accessible over a complex local and wide area network environment. The network must maintain 24x7 availability with near 100% uptime. The Network Engineer will be responsible for supporting network operations, security, maintenance, and collaboration with internal departments and external organizations to deliver a secure and effective network solution.
Responsibilities
- Support large enterprise network operations, including monitoring circuits daily for anomalies that may cause outages.
- Respond to remote site circuit outages and resolve router, switch, and firewall issues in a timely manner.
- Configure and monitor core to remote network equipment across a complex local and wide area network environment.
- Implement, upgrade, and maintain products from the Cisco suite of tools.
- Plan, design, and implement local and wide area networks in alignment with agency requirements.
- Perform ongoing network maintenance and problem resolution, including after-hours support as needed.
- Utilize SecureCRT, Cisco Command Line Interface, and OSI model principles in daily operations.
- Collaborate with other agency departments and external organizations to ensure a secure and effective network solution.
- Provide network support for all programs and systems used across the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
- Participate in on-call rotations approximately every 5 weeks to address after-hours network issues.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- 8 years of experience supporting large enterprise network operations.
- 8 years of experience implementing, upgrading, and maintaining products from the Cisco suite of tools.
- 8 years of experience planning, designing, and implementing local and wide area networks.
- 8 years of experience monitoring network infrastructure.
- 8 years of experience performing ongoing maintenance and problem resolution.
- Proficiency in SecureCRT, Cisco Command Line Interface, and OSI model principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects and consistently meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
- Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) certification.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification.
Additional Requirements
- This is a dedicated position; the candidate may not hold concurrent employment with any other employer.
- For the initial 2 to 4 weeks, the candidate may be required to work on-site at the Huntsville, TX location before transitioning to remote work.
- In-person meetings may be required on occasion in Austin, TX and/or Huntsville, TX; advance notice will be provided.
- Must reside in the state of Texas; located in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, or San Antonio metropolitan areas.
Work Location and Schedule
Location: 8610 Shoal Creek Blvd, Austin, TX 78757 or 815 11th St, Huntsville, TX 77340
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays; after-hours on-call rotation approximately every 5 weeks.
Work Arrangement: Remote - with on-site presence as required.
