Data Analyst- Data & Insights

Position Description: Reporting to the Manager, Data Operations, the full-time contract Data Analyst will support the analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement of data for Canada’s 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline.

The Data Analyst will work closely with data engineers, data scientists, operational teams, and external partners to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and translated into meaningful insights. The role will also support the continued development of the 9-8-8 Azure data environment and reporting infrastructure.

Key Accountabilities

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, service gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Tableau and other reporting tools.
• Monitor key service performance indicators and provide actionable insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Perform ad hoc analysis and respond to internal and external data requests.
• Use SQL and Python to query, transform, validate, and analyze data.
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of reporting.

Data Operations & Azure Support

• Work with data in the 9-8-8 Microsoft Azure environment, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, and Azure SQL/SQL Managed Instance.
• Collaborate with data engineers to support ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, and new data integrations.
• Monitor and investigate data quality, completeness, reconciliation, and transformation issues.
• Support the development and maintenance of data models, reporting tables, and curated datasets.
• Assist with testing and validating changes to data pipelines, business rules, and reporting logic.
• Maintain clear documentation of data definitions, calculations, and processes.

Data Governance & Stakeholder Support

• Support data quality, governance, privacy, and security practices for sensitive crisis service data.
• Work with internal teams and external partners to understand reporting and analytical requirements.
• Prepare and validate data for funders, provinces/territories, service partners, and other stakeholders.
• Communicate technical findings and analytical insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with research teams, project teams, clinical teams, and principal investigators to meet research goals, evaluate statistical data, and translate findings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
• 3+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or data operations.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and experience using Python for data analysis and automation.
• Experience developing dashboards and visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
• Experience working with relational databases, data warehouses, or data lake environments.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure data services, particularly Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure SQL, is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of data quality, validation, reconciliation, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Assets

• Experience with healthcare, mental health, crisis services, or contact centre data.
• Experience working with JSON, Parquet, APIs, or large transactional datasets.
• Familiarity with Git, source control, or development/testing environments.
• Experience supporting advanced analytics, machine learning, or unstructured text analysis.
• Bilingualism in French and English and/or proficiency in another language.

This position is based at CAMH's Queen Street West location.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Hiring Salary Range: $59,598.75 – $74,498.44 per year (based on qualifications and experience)
• Full Salary Range: $59,598.75 – $89,398.13 (reflecting potential growth within the role)
