This role is four days onsite at our Seneca One Buffalo, NY location, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week

Overview:     

We are seeking an experienced Technology Manager to lead our Database Platform Engineering team and drive the development, optimization, and management of cutting-edge database platforms. In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day design, implementation, and delivery of scalable and secure database solutions that meet M&T's strategic objectives. In this role you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including infrastructure, software engineers and IT professionals, to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and performance across platforms.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the database engineering team, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust database engineering platforms, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies, implementing best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and ensure the DB platforms are in alignment.
  • Lead technical product management activities for strategic products related to the Database Engineering program.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess needs, enhancement opportunities, and issues leading to a healthy Product backlog.
  • Understand the group's technical product offerings, value, intended usages.  Develop product roadmap(s) for consumption by the team, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure delivery of messaging, communication, reporting, and customer outreach, as necessary.
  • Partner with stakeholders to resolve production issues and drive escalations where required to ensure timely resolution.
  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of next gen features.
  • Define and analyze technical markets, developing detailed product features and requirements, and developing implementation plans.
  • Employ a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to continually deliver value and improve the platform experience.
  • Participate in and provide recommendations for ongoing business planning and departmental prioritization activities.
  • Participate in the team's engineering practices in development, continuous integration, and automated deployment.
  • Implement technology consistent with Division standards and long-range plans. Ensure adherence to all Department and Technology standards and procedures, including all documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the business environment and needs within the area of responsibility.  Understand technical, business, and operational impacts of a project or problem.
  • Responsible for the job growth and career development of staff members by providing training plans, guidance and sharing knowledge.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

8 to 12 direct reports

Education and Experience Required:

  • A combined minimum of 11 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 4 years’ engineering and/or architecture experience and 5 years' leadership experience including people management
  • 5+ years related work experience with Databases required, or 8+ years technology experience with 3+ in a database/infra role (Postgres and/or Oracle at a minimum).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent decision-making skills
  • Agile experience including methodology, project cadences, ceremonies, and use of Jira.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Subject Matter Expert in Postgres and Oracle
  • Experience with Azure data functions
  • Experience with Oracle or Postgres

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $139,700.00 - $232,900.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
