What makes a cover letter get read

Recruiters skim. A cover letter earns a second look when its first lines show you read the posting: name the role, then lead with one result that matches what they asked for. Numbers help. “Cut time-to-interactive by 2.1 seconds” lands where “improved performance” doesn't.

Keep it to three or four short paragraphs. Mirror two or three of the posting's key phrases where they are honestly true of you. Close with why this company, in a sentence you couldn't send to anyone else.
