Senior DevOps Engineer

Overview

The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for advancing and embedding DevOps practices across platforms, enabling the efficient, reliable, and scalable delivery of applications.

This role serves as a critical link between software development and IT operations, driving automation, system integration, and continuous delivery capabilities across .NET and SQL-based environments, including both legacy and modern technology stacks.

As a hands-on technical leader, the Senior DevOps Engineer ensures the stability, performance, security, and operational excellence of platforms that support registry services, share plans, and transaction processing. The role focuses on enhancing platform reliability, accelerating delivery cycles, and maintaining strong governance and control standards across the application landscape.

Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities

Strategic Focus

• Contribute to the implementation and adoption of DevOps practices, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technology priorities.

• Support the transition towards automated, scalable, and resilient deployment models to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across software delivery processes to optimise platform performance, efficiency, and stability.

Operational Management

• Liaise with stakeholders across MUFG and third-party vendors to support application platforms, services, and integrations.

• Collaborate closely with development teams to embed DevOps principles throughout the application design, build, testing, and deployment lifecycle.

• Manage and maintain CI/CD pipelines for .NET applications and SQL-based systems, ensuring reliable and efficient software delivery.

• Support batch processing, job scheduling, and environment dependencies critical to business applications and transaction processing platforms.

• Evaluate, implement, and manage DevOps tools and technologies for continuous integration, continuous delivery, orchestration, and configuration management (e.g., Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes).

• Continuously improve deployment and release management processes to enhance delivery speed, stability, and operational efficiency.

• Monitor system health and performance, ensuring the timely identification and resolution of incidents and technical issues.

• Lead the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of production issues across development, testing, and production environments.

• Ensure high system availability and contribute to disaster recovery planning, testing, and readiness activities.

• Conduct root cause analysis of incidents and implement sustainable solutions to prevent recurrence.

• Participate in after-hours and weekend support activities as required to meet operational and business needs.

People Leadership

• Collaborate with Service Delivery Managers (SDMs), Project Managers (PMs), and stakeholders across Australia and the UK to deliver development initiatives and project outcomes.

• Manage and coordinate day-to-day BAU activities and project delivery, working closely with Development, Testing, and Business Analysis teams.

• Build and implement modern software development practices, engineering standards, and industry best practices to improve quality, efficiency, and delivery outcomes.

Governance & Risk

• Ensure compliance with technology standards, policies, security controls, and governance requirements.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in accordance with established operational standards and procedures.

• Identify, escalate, and manage risks, issues, and incidents that may impact service delivery or business operations.

• Support audit activities and ensure adherence to regulatory, compliance, and control requirements.

Experience & Personal Attributes

Experience

• 6+ years overall experience, with 3 years in DevOps / platform engineering roles

• Good experience working with .NET applications and SQL-based systems

• Proven expertise in CI/CD tools such as ADO, Jenkins & Azure

• Knowledge of APIM policy and management and good understanding of Azure resources/services

• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Proficiency in scripting (Shell, PowerShell)

• Strong understanding of software development methodologies including Agile and DevOps principles

• Experience in batch-driven, transaction-heavy environments with sequencing dependencies. Understanding of enterprise system integrations and data flows

• Experience working in legacy-modern hybrid environments (e.g., .NET monolith with modern DevOps stack).

• Experience in financial services, capital markets, or registry/share plan platforms.

• Exposure to monitoring tools.
