Position Summary
Candidates must reside within the Duke Energy Carolinas/Carolinas West footprint.
There are two (2) PM II positions open:
1. Execution PM, Central/Upstate Team - This role has accountability for managing the execution of Distribution Substation Optimization (SO) and Area Capacity (ACU) projects in Carolinas West. This role includes execution responsibilities for a geographic area and/or supporting responsibilities across the broader team. This includes ensuring all project success factors are met, including but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, communications, risk management, and integration with regulatory commitments. There are important zone stakeholder constructs in place where alignment is critical to success.
2. Portfolio PM, Carolinas West – This role has accountability for overall portfolio execution success in alignment with internal performance metrics, adherence to governance procedures, and fulfillment of regulatory commitments across North and South Carolina. Project execution responsibilities as described above may apply as required by portfolio workload. Close alignment with Managers of Project Management within the organization as well as Project Controls teams are key to success of the overall team. This role will work closely with the Project Director.
These positions report to the Project Director. This position serves as the unifying agent providing leadership, management, direction, coordination, and control of the overall project in accordance with the established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements of The Company. Successful collaboration with key stakeholders as well as the broader team is critical. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and interested in working with a dynamic team. Prior utility experience is required. Some knowledge of electric distribution systems and equipment is required. This position is considered a leadership position; minimum qualifications must be met to be placed within this position.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership, oversight management, delegation, and coordination to the various internal and external organizations that are providing services to the project. This includes project development, engineering, project controls, construction management, supply chain, legal, EHS, operations, communications, regulatory (internal and external) and transmission. The PM manages all matrixed members of the team on a daily basis and is responsible for interfacing with functional managers of team members, regarding work prioritization, development and conflict resolution. Structure, lead, and/or assist in leading all project related meetings and reports required to ensure open communication between all team members, key stakeholders, and management (monthly project reviews, kickoff meetings, weekly reports, monthly reports, etc.) and to properly report project status. Assure that Project Plan, all appropriate reports, and reporting means are developed and managed according to PMCoE Standards. Present reports to appropriate management / governance team skillfully
Required/Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 5 years related work experience
- In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) AND 5 plus year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 9 plus year(s) related work experience
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Project management or Master's degree in Business Administration
- Project Management Professional and/or Professional Engineer
- Utility Experience (electric distribution, transmission, or gas)

- Proficiency to Expertise in Project Management, Decision Making, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving

Working Conditions
- Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
- Hybrid – Reports to a Duke office 3 days/week.
- Travel - 5-15%, some field visits
- Must be located in NC/SC Duke Energy Carolinas (DEC) footprint.
