Full description
The Business Intelligence Engineer learns MidFirst Bank's Microsoft Fabric data platform, governed Power BI development standards, and banking data domains while delivering well-defined, closely scoped work items. Success at this level is measured by the quality and consistency of assigned deliverables, the pace of technical skill acquisition, and demonstrated adherence to EBI standards and Enterprise Data Governance policies.
Scope & Decision Authority
▪ Executes discrete, well-defined tasks assigned and reviewed by a Senior, Lead, or the EBI Supervi-sor.
▪ Impact is at the task and report-component level; all work is peer-reviewed prior to promotion be-yond Development workspaces.
▪ No independent production deployment authority.
Core Responsibilities
Data Engineering & Fabric Platform
▪ Builds and modifies simple Dataflows Gen2 and Power Query (M) transformations against curated Lakehouse and Warehouse sources under direction.
▪ Assists with data validation, profiling, and reconciliation tasks (row counts, control totals, source-to-target checks) for pipelines owned by senior engineers.
▪ Learns MidFirst's Fabric workspace structure, environment tiers (Dev/Test/Prod), and the EBI work-space naming and governance policy.
▪ Documents data lineage, refresh schedules, and job dependencies for assigned components.
Power BI Development
▪ Develops report pages and visuals from approved wireframes using the governed MidFirst theme JSON library and Dashboard Standards (correct colorway by business line; brand-compliant use of PMS 021 orange).
▪ Writes basic DAX measures (aggregations, simple time intelligence) with guidance and applies standard formatting, tooltips, and accessibility conventions.
▪ Performs report QA: visual-level testing, slicer/filter behavior, bookmark integrity, and RLS spot checks under supervision.
▪ Maintains existing reports: label updates, minor visual changes, documentation refreshes.
Governance, Quality & Compliance
▪ Follows EBI publishing standards, including overwrite-in-place deployment to preserve report IDs and user bookmarks.
▪ Completes required bank compliance training and learns data classification, GLBA privacy expecta-tions, and least-privilege access practices.
▪ Logs work items, test evidence, and peer-review outcomes in the team's intake and tracking pro-cess.
Collaboration & Growth
▪ Participates in team ceremonies, design reviews, and standards walkthroughs; asks questions early and surfaces blockers promptly.
▪ Pursues Microsoft PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) certification within the first 12–18 months.
▪ Shadows senior engineers on stakeholder requirement sessions to learn MidFirst's business lines (Retail, Commercial, MidFirst Private Bank, Mortgage Servicing, MoneyMoments).
Microsoft Fabric Platform & Certification
▪ Navigates the Fabric workspace model and OneLake: item types (Lakehouse, Warehouse, seman-tic model, report, pipeline, notebook, Dataflow Gen2), SQL analytics endpoints, and EBI's Dev/Test/Prod workspace tiers.
▪ Executes and monitors scheduled pipeline runs and dataflow refreshes; triages failures with run his-tory and logs and escalates to the owning engineer.
▪ Queries Lakehouse Delta tables through the SQL analytics endpoint for validation and reconciliation tasks; learns Delta Lake fundamentals (tables, schema evolution, V-Order) and medallion-layer concepts.
▪ Certification path: completes Fabric fundamentals learning paths on Microsoft Learn and attains PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) within 12–18 months; begins the DP-600 learning path once PL-300 is achieved.
Minimum Qualifications
▪ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or related field; or equiva-lent experience (including military technical training).
▪ Foundational SQL and exposure to Power BI or a comparable BI tool (academic, internship, or self-directed).
▪ Familiarity with basic data concepts: relational models, joins, aggregation, data types.
▪ Strong attention to detail and willingness to work within documented standards
