Position Summary
Applied Materials is seeking a skilled Process Support Engineer (PSE) to join our team in Kumamoto, Japan, supporting our customer at the JASM site. In this role, you will provide hands-on support for semiconductor process technologies, specializing in one or more of the following areas: Metal Deposition (MDP), Dielectric Deposition (DDP), Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Etch, Front End Process (FEP), Epitaxy (EPI), Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP), Ion Implantation (IMP), or Process Diagnostics & Control (PDC).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-visibility customer support through on-site installations, system diagnoses, and the service and repair of complex systems and equipment
- Work closely with the customer to develop leading-edge processes used to manufacture the most advanced semiconductor chips, many of which are inside everyday electronic devices
- Create hypothesis experiments and design of experiments (DOE); analyze data with statistics; and compile reports with high-level conclusions on technically challenging process engineering experiments
- Troubleshoot complex problems; perform multiple root cause analysis; and resolve a variety of difficult process engineering and customer product issues
- Communicate with both internal stakeholders and the customer to achieve goals with a focus on building relationships and establishing trust
- Apply your growing knowledge of the company’s processes and customers to help solve a range of problems and analyze possible solutions
Location: Kumamoto, Japan.
This position will be hired directly by Applied Materials Japan and is based in Kumamoto, Japan. This role will onboard in Kumamoto and undergo a 6 to 12-month on-the-job training program in Taiwan.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in chemistry/ physics, materials engineering, electrical engineering, optoelectronics or related field
- 3+years of experience in semiconductor process engineering or technical support. New graduates are also welcome.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with hands-on experience in process development or equipment troubleshooting
- Familiar with Applied Materials' platforms is a plus
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Fluent in English (TOEIC Certification 550+ required; 700+ preferred) and Mandarin. Japanese is a plus.
