Full description

Construction Innovation Systems Analyst

Bird is seeking a technology-minded Construction Innovation Systems Analyst to support the development of connected digital solutions across its data centre portfolio. Working with Construction Innovation, project teams, Project Controls, Information Technology, Digital Construction, and operational groups, this role will help transform manually managed construction processes into structured, connected, and increasingly automated systems.

The initial focus will include digitizing work-package information, designing reliable data structures, hosting and connecting project data, supporting integrations with InEight and other construction systems, creating lightweight applications and AI-enabled tools, and enabling controlled outputs and reporting. As the program matures, the role will contribute to model-connected planning, 3D/4D workflows, and digital-twin capabilities.

This role is not primarily a dashboard-development position. Power BI is one reporting layer within a broader responsibility spanning structured data, hosted data, APIs, integrations, lightweight tools, automation, and future model-connected workflows.

What You Will Be Working On

Digital Systems and Data

  • Develop and maintain structured data models, registers, databases, and workflows that support construction planning and execution.
  • Convert manually managed project information into connected tables, forms, interfaces, and controlled outputs.
  • Support appropriate hosting and management of project data using approved enterprise platforms and services.
  • Define stable identifiers, data relationships, field definitions, validation rules, data ownership, and data-quality checks.
  • Create reusable operational views, reports, and generated Word/PDF outputs from governed structured data.

System Integration

  • Support the connection of project information across InEight and other systems used for schedule, cost, procurement, materials, documents, progress, quality, safety, models, and field execution.
  • Work with system owners and project teams to identify authoritative sources, integration requirements, permissions, and refresh expectations.
  • Build and maintain APIs, data pipelines, mapping tables, transformation rules, and file-based integrations where appropriate.
  • Support data exchange between enterprise systems, project tools, databases, analytics platforms, and lightweight applications.
  • Document interfaces, dependencies, exception handling, and traceability requirements.

AI, Automation, and Lightweight Tools

  • Use approved AI tools to rapidly prototype practical solutions for project and operational needs.
  • Develop lightweight tools and interfaces that simplify data capture, validation, package generation, and user interaction.
  • Develop automated workflows that reduce duplicate entry, manual reconciliation, and repetitive reporting.
  • Use technologies such as Python, SQL, Power Automate, Power Apps, Microsoft Copilot, and other approved platforms as appropriate.
  • Apply human review and control to automated outputs, recommendations, and decisions.

Work Packaging and Connected Execution

  • Support the digital representation of Construction Work Packages and Installation Work Packages.
  • Connect work packages with drawings, schedule activities, cost items, materials, model elements, constraints, approvals, revisions, and progress.
  • Support InEight configuration, data preparation, import/export, and integration requirements related to work packaging.
  • Develop digital readiness tracking, package-status views, and controlled issue outputs.
  • Work closely with the implementation team so digital solutions reflect actual project and field requirements.

Visualization and Future Digital Twin

  • Develop Power BI dashboards and other visualizations where they add operational value, without treating reporting as the primary system of record.
  • Support model-connected planning and 3D/4D views using governed package identifiers and project data.
  • Contribute to future digital-twin workflows that connect spatial information, status, readiness, progress, and project systems.
  • Evaluate new technologies against practical project requirements, scalability, supportability, and measurable value.

Standards and Scalability

  • Develop reusable technical standards, data dictionaries, integration documentation, templates, and solution patterns.
  • Capture lessons learned from Sherwood and adapt effective solutions for other data centre projects.
  • Help determine when a prototype should remain lightweight, be configured in an existing platform, or be developed into a scalable application.
  • Support testing, user documentation, deployment, training, and handover of completed solutions.

What We Are Looking For

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Technology Management, Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related discipline.
  • New graduates and early-career candidates with strong project, co-op, internship, capstone, or portfolio experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Construction experience is an asset, but strong learning ability and practical problem-solving capability are equally important.
  • Strong understanding of structured data, relational thinking, data quality, and traceability.
  • Experience with Excel and one or more of Python, SQL, APIs, databases, Dataverse, SharePoint Lists, Power Automate, Power Apps, or Power BI.
  • Ability to understand a business process and translate it into a practical digital solution.
  • Experience integrating systems, transforming data, building lightweight applications, or automating workflows is an asset.
  • Familiarity with construction platforms such as InEight, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, CMiC, Primavera P6, SiteSense, or similar tools is an asset.
  • Interest in applying AI to build tools, improve workflows, and solve operational problems.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Curious, practical, and comfortable experimenting while maintaining data discipline and governance.
  • Able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working across multiple connected systems and priorities.
  • Able to turn ambiguous needs into testable, useful solutions.
