Machine Learning Engineer (Decision Engine)

How You’ll Make an Impact

The decision engine decides, for every account in a large consumer portfolio, whether we reach out, through which channel, when, and how often. It is a machine that turns models into money, and it runs every day. As an MLE on the Data Science team you build it and you run it.

You will see a model you built change a business number within weeks, on a real portfolio rather than a benchmark, with senior data scientists next to you to learn the rigor from. If you want to become a strong data scientist rather than a model trainer, this is the seat where that happens.

What You’ll Do

Decisioning Ownership

• Build the decisioning that picks which accounts we work with, through which channel, when, and how often.
• Own a decision end to end, from the signal that triggered it to the outcome it produced.

Models, Pipelines and Reliability

• Build the models behind those decisions — propensity, timing, channel response, contactability — and the pipelines that feed them.
• Hold recovery, cost and reliability together, and move one without giving away the other two.
• Build the monitoring that catches a broken input or a drifted model before the business notices.

Evidence and the Frontier

• Backtest a change before it ships and measure it on live traffic after, on the metric the business is actually paid on.
• Benchmark new methods on our own portfolios and our own metrics before adopting them.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Background

• Minimum 2 years of experience in IT, Computer Science, Banking, or Finance.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or Java.
• Strong hands-on experience in machine learning, statistics, and experimentation.
• Experience with SQL databases and statistical analysis.
• Familiarity with bank-related products like unsecured personal loans and credit cards is preferred.
• Experience with big data processing is a plus.
• Startup or tech background is a strong plus.

How You Work

• You build models and pipelines, and you use AI to get more of it done — writing and reviewing code, exploring data, running more variants than you could by hand — while judging every output on evidence before it reaches a live decision.
• You experiment proactively instead of waiting to be told what to build — you take a hypothesis to the data, then bring the result to the table.
• You move fluidly between modeling, data engineering and business context, coordinating across product and operations without needing a handoff document.
• You treat every failed experiment as a learning input and keep sharpening your craft without being told to.

Skills & Competencies

• Product Architect — Prototypes a working decisioning system, reads the metrics it produces, and iterates before anyone has to ask.
• AI Engineer/Architect — Ships end-to-end ML systems, owning the path from data pipeline to production decision.
• AI Operator — Keeps the engine running above target at controlled cost, catching a bad feed or a drifted model before it reaches the portfolio.
• Strong English communication skills (spoken and written — professional fluency required).
• High adaptability and comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
