Company Overview
Alloyed is a young venture-funded company built with world-class metallurgists, mechanical engineers, technicians, and software developers. Operating from our HQ in the UK but also globally, we are building the future of advanced metal components. Our innovative approach integrates proprietary software that combines advanced machine learning and physical modelling with extensive experimental facilities, enabling us to 3D print metal components more efficiently and effectively than anyone else.
Our facilities in Yarnton and Abingdon, near Oxford, are dedicated to establishing the world’s fastest, smartest, and best-equipped environment for the rapid development of additively manufactured parts and the creation of novel metal alloys for enhanced performance.
We serve a variety of sectors including electronics, aerospace, and industrial by leveraging our cutting-edge technology to build businesses across diverse markets, each with unique requirements, timelines, customers, and cultures.
Role Overview
Alloyed is currently designing microturbine engines in a variety of sizes and specifications for a range of jet propulsion applications. Argive is using additive manufacturing to increase performance over current state of the art by leveraging more complex designs enabled by AM and bespoke high temperature materials. Alongside the mechanical design work. Our team is building bespoke controllers to partner the engines and their ancillaries. The controller is designed to be easily adapted across the range of engines that Argive are developing, whilst interfacing with a range of customer platforms.
Alloyed is seeking a motivated embedded systems hardware engineer to support the design and testing of these controllers. The role involves taking existing development controller configurations and developing them into production ready solutions, refining functionality and improving reliability.
An ideal candidate would be an expert in embedded hardware development, with familiarity with the firmware design principles that would be implemented on such a system. There is scope to shape the role around exceptional individuals with skills across these areas.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop hardware for production controllers for the range of Argive engines including component selection, schematic capture and PCB layout
- Rapidly implement hardware solutions for onboarding new engine ancillaries
- Develop the engine controller hardware so that it can be rapidly adapted to engines in different thrust classes with different ancillaries
- Contribute to the testing of the controller to ensure reliability and robustness
- Work within a fast paced, agile development team in collaboration with other engineers and technicians.
- Work collaboratively to solve complex problems with innovative solutions
Essential skills
- Strong technical background working with embedded systems hardware design
- Degree in a relevant engineering field (2:1 or above), or equivalent experience
- Excellent understanding of PCB design best practices and principles, from component selection and schematics to layout
- Exposure to both the hardware and firmware design projects
- Highly effective communicator who encourages innovation through collaboration
- Natural problem solver with a desire to learn
- Organised and self-motivated, able to own and independently manage large projects
Desired skills
- Familiarity with: STM32 based platforms / PCB design and layout for highly stressed environments / Electric motor controller design / CAN implementations / Design to minimise the effects of EM interference / The use of C or C++
- A basic understanding of turbomachinery including operating principles and control variables
- Experience working in a fast-paced outcomes focused engineering environment
