Lead Backend Developer (Python/Django)

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior/Lead Backend Developer to lead the design, development, and evolution of the backend architecture powering NexusGRID. You will play a key role in building highly scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services capable of processing millions of telemetry records from energy assets while maintaining exceptional reliability and performance.

You will work closely with frontend developers, data scientists, DevOps engineers, QA engineers, and product stakeholders to deliver enterprise-grade software used by utilities and energy companies worldwide.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, mentoring developers, and shaping the technical direction of a growing software platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of backend services.
  • Design scalable REST APIs and backend microservices.
  • Build reliable, secure, and high-performance distributed systems.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise-grade Django applications.
  • Optimize database performance and data models.
  • Design asynchronous processing pipelines using Celery or equivalent technologies.
  • Implement event-driven architectures where appropriate.
  • Ensure code quality through code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with DevOps engineers to improve deployment and infrastructure automation.
  • Work closely with frontend teams to define API contracts.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to productionize machine learning and forecasting models.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers through technical guidance and code reviews.
  • Participate in architectural decisions and technology selection.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and drive root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and development best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional backend software development experience.
  • Extensive experience with Python.
  • Strong professional experience with Django, or equivalent enterprise backend frameworks (such as FastAPI, Flask, Spring Boot, ASP.NET Core, or Node.js/NestJS), with the ability to quickly adapt to Django if not already proficient.
  • Strong experience designing RESTful APIs.
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Experience with ORM technologies.
  • Experience building scalable backend architectures.
  • Strong understanding of authentication and authorization (JWT, OAuth2, OpenID Connect).
  • Experience working with Docker.
  • Experience using Git in collaborative development environments.
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong debugging and performance optimization skills.
