Full description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Product Designer, Guest & Discovery based in United States.

This is a high-impact product design role focused on shaping how guests discover, compare, and book experiences in a rapidly evolving digital marketplace. You will own the end-to-end discovery journey, from search and filtering to results, maps, listing pages, and AI-driven entry points. The role combines information design, systems thinking, interaction design, and product strategy to solve complex discovery problems. You will work closely with a Product Manager and engineering lead, contributing to both customer research and the underlying product system.Your work will help make AI-inferred information understandable, trustworthy, and easy for guests to correct when needed. The environment values fast experimentation, measurable outcomes, accessibility, strong craft, and shipping meaningful improvements in days rather than quarters. This is an opportunity for a senior designer to shape a critical product surface while influencing how discovery experiences evolve in an AI-driven world.

Accountabilities

  • Own the end-to-end guest discovery experience across search, filtering, refinement, results, maps, listing pages, organic search, and AI assistant entry points.
  • Create coherent discovery experiences across multiple brands and web and mobile platforms.
  • Define and defend the information hierarchy of search and results cards across different guest intents and real-world data states, including missing photos, limited reviews, variable pricing, and partial availability.
  • Design interfaces that make inferred, ranked, or predicted information understandable and transparent while providing intuitive correction paths when the system is wrong.
  • Partner with engineering to shape structured representations of experiences, offers, and operators so information remains useful when summarized, quoted, or rendered by third-party AI assistants.
  • Conduct continuous discovery with guests and operators, identifying opportunities and validating assumptions through the appropriate research or design artifact.
  • Work as an integrated member of a product pod alongside a Product Manager and engineering tech lead, contributing to problem framing, system design, and experience definition.
  • Define success metrics before launch and evaluate how shipped experiences affect measurable customer and business outcomes.
  • Run rapid, focused experiments, using evidence to determine what should be scaled, refined, or discontinued.
  • Ship high-quality product improvements quickly, ensuring interaction states, accessibility, and edge cases are addressed before release.
  • Collaborate across traditional team boundaries, engaging with engineering, support, pricing, and other functions to understand the broader customer and business context.
  • Work within the existing design system and introduce new patterns only when they demonstrate clear value over established solutions.
  • Maintain WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards across product experiences.
  • Contribute to design quality and team development by sharing expertise, challenging assumptions constructively, and supporting other designers.

Requirements

  • Significant experience owning search, browse, or discovery experiences within a two-sided marketplace, including relevance surfaces, faceted filtering, pricing and availability, map/list experiences, or comparison flows.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating substantial ownership of complex product design problems, with two or three detailed case studies showing the problem, research, iterations, trade-offs, shipped work, and measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to design high-information interfaces with clear, defensible information hierarchies and strong visual and typographic craft.
  • Experience designing products or interfaces powered by systems that infer, rank, recommend, or predict, including communicating system state and confidence and designing effective correction paths.
  • A clear perspective on how search and discovery should evolve in an AI-driven environment, including an understanding of when conversational interfaces are and are not appropriate.
  • Strong systems-thinking skills, with the ability to reason about entities, states, edge cases, data structures, and product contracts alongside technical partners.
  • Experience working directly with customers through interviews, discovery sessions, support interactions, or other research activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to connect design decisions to measurable customer and commercial outcomes.
  • Comfortable working in an environment where requirements are not always fully defined and where designers are expected to identify opportunities and shape problems independently.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence product and engineering decisions without relying on formal authority.
  • Experience working within established design systems and applying accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • Familiarity with AI tools in the design workflow is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of search relevance, structured data, schema, third-party AI assistant surfaces, travel, hospitality, or local-services search is a plus.
  • Experience working in fast-moving product environments where small, finished increments are shipped frequently is preferred.
  • A degree in design, HCI, information architecture, or a related discipline is welcome but not required; portfolio quality and demonstrated shipped, measured work are prioritized.
  • Availability for significant working-hour overlap with U.S. Eastern Time.
  • Strong portfolio evidence of both successful and unsuccessful work, demonstrating thoughtful experimentation, learning, and decision-making.

Benefits

  • Fully remote position within the United States.
  • High collaboration and working-hour overlap with U.S. Eastern Time.
  • Opportunity to join a five-person design team and serve as the dedicated designer within a cross-functional product pod.
  • Direct partnership with product management and engineering leadership.
  • High ownership over a strategically important discovery experience.
  • Fast-paced environment where meaningful product improvements can move from concept to production in days rather than quarters.
  • Opportunity to work on emerging challenges at the intersection of product discovery, AI, structured information, and marketplace experiences.
  • Strong emphasis on design quality, accessibility, experimentation, customer understanding, and measurable impact.
  • Exposure to a broad range of product, commercial, technical, and customer-facing challenges.
  • Collaborative culture that encourages designers and cross-functional partners to challenge assumptions, share expertise, and support one another.
