Senior Commercial Financial Analyst

SSI is seeking a Senior Commercial Financial Analyst to provide high-quality financial and commercial advice to executives, divisional managers and program leaders. This is an opportunity to move beyond historical reporting and play an influential role in financial planning, program sustainability and strategic decision-making across a purpose-led organisation.

You will partner closely with operational teams supporting refugees, people seeking asylum, new migrants and culturally diverse communities. Your analysis and advice will help ensure financial resources are effectively planned, managed and aligned with organisational priorities and community outcomes.

About the role

Reporting to the Business Analysis, Planning and Grant Management Manager, you will act as a trusted finance partner across a diverse portfolio of programs.

You will provide commercial insight into program performance, funding requirements, workforce costs, revenue, risks and opportunities. Through robust analysis and constructive challenge, you will support leaders to make informed decisions about program growth, sustainability and future direction.

The portfolio includes one of SSI’s largest and most complex programs, which is undergoing significant changes to its service delivery model. This creates an opportunity to contribute high-value planning, scenario modelling and commercial advice at an important time for the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with program leaders, operational managers and executives, providing clear commercial finance advice that supports informed decision-making.

• Lead budgeting, rolling forecasts, financial planning and scenario modelling across a diverse portfolio, including complex programs and changing service delivery models.

• Analyse program revenue, costs, workforce drivers, overheads, funding arrangements and service contracts to assess performance, sustainability, risks and opportunities.

• Prepare meaningful management and executive reporting, combining financial results with operational insights to support decisions on program growth, continuation, restructuring or closure.

• Develop financial models and deep-dive analysis to identify trends, validate assumptions and contribute to tenders, contract negotiations and strategic planning.

• Work with internal data specialists to analyse large datasets and strengthen financial processes and outcomes through Power BI, emerging technology and responsible use of AI.

About you

You are a commercially astute finance professional who can work confidently with both financial and non-financial stakeholders. You communicate complex information clearly, build credibility quickly and are comfortable constructively questioning assumptions when evidence suggests a different approach.

Essential Criteria

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business or a related discipline, along with CPA or CA qualification or eligibility for membership with CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

• At least five years’ experience in commercial finance, financial analysis, business partnering or a similar role, with strong capability in budgeting, rolling forecasts and financial planning.

• Demonstrated experience in financial modelling, scenario analysis, complex problem-solving, government tender budgets and acquittals.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools to analyse data and support decision-making.

• Strong relationship-building, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work confidently with financial and non-financial stakeholders.

• A proactive, autonomous working style, with the ability to manage competing priorities, support change initiatives and deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes.

Experience in complex service-delivery environments or using business intelligence tools will be highly regarded.
