SMX is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to mine and analyze PRESS knowledge‑management data, build real‑time ACIC executive dashboards, and develop automated ETL/ELT pipelines that measure and forecast DI analytical production and workforce resourcing. The data scientist will also collaborate with Directorate leadership to define KPIs, translate complex statistical models into clear executive decision aids, and maintain strict data integrity and governance across all reporting pipelines.

This position will require 3-6 month embed at DIA HQ (JBAB, Washington, D.C.) followed by primary duty at ACIC (Ft. Meade, MD) with recurring DIA HQ support as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leverage PRESS knowledge management, metadata store, and production data to establish ACIC dashboards and quantitatively and qualitatively capture and evaluate DI analytic efforts and associated resourcing.
  • Duty Locations & Schedule: Initial 3 to 6-month embed at DIA HQ (JBAB, Washington, D.C.); followed by primary duty at ACIC (Fort Meade, MD) with recurring DIA HQ support as required
  • Mine and analyze PRESS knowledge management data, metadata stores, and production logs to build real-time ACIC executive dashboards
  • Quantitatively and qualitatively measure, evaluate, and forecast DI analytical production throughput, workforce resourcing, and effort allocation
  • Build automated ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, clean, and validate data from disparate production systems
  • Collaborate with Directorate leadership and intelligence analysts to formulate key operational performance indicators (KPIs) and analytical metrics
  • Translate complex statistical models and data patterns into clear executive briefings, visual stories, and actionable decision aids
  • Maintain strict data integrity, auditability, and governance across all reporting pipelines

Required Skills, Experience & Education

  • Security Clearance: TS/SCI (Polygraph eligible / must submit if requested)
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field
  • Experience Required: 5+ years in Data Science, Analytics Engineering, or Enterprise Data Architecture roles
  • Advanced programming in Python and/or R for data wrangling, statistical modeling, machine learning, and natural language processing (NLP)
  • Advanced SQL capabilities for querying, transforming, and extracting data from enterprise relational databases, data lakes, and metadata stores
  • Mastery of enterprise business intelligence (BI) platforms: Tableau, Power BI, or Qlik
  • Strong foundation in metadata management, data catalogs, data lineage tracking, and knowledge management governance
  • Experience integrating with backend APIs from project tracking tools (Jira, Git, ServiceNow) to pull operational metrics

The proposed salary for this position is:

$190,000—$215,000 USD
