Full description

Allient Inc. is in growth mode and currently seeking an Embedded Software Integration and Verification Engineer to join our team in Rochester, New York!

The Embedded Software Integration & Verification Engineer will develop, integrate, and verify embedded software for motion control and industrial automation products. This role combines software development, test automation, and hands-on hardware/software integration with independent ownership of assigned deliverables. You will plan and execute your work, document results, communicate progress and risks, and demonstrate technical leadership through sound engineering decisions, constructive participation in reviews, and accountability for outcomes. The role offers opportunities to help design and build automated test frameworks, improve verification capabilities, and grow into broader technical ownership. Apply now!

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain embedded software, test tooling, and automation for product integration and verification. Help design, build, and improve automated test frameworks and reusable test assets.
  • Develop and execute test procedures and automated tests for assigned features, including unit, integration, regression, and system testing; support hardware/software-in-the-loop testing as needed.
  • Implement test execution, data acquisition, pass/fail checks, performance measurements, and reporting. Maintain traceability between requirements, tests, results, and supporting evidence.
  • Integrate and debug embedded hardware, software, communications, sensors, actuators, and peripherals using diagnostic tools and bench instrumentation.
  • Investigate software, protocol, timing, and system issues; document findings, collaborate on corrective actions, and verify resolution of assigned defects.
  • Maintain version-controlled code, test configurations, and documentation. Contribute to regression automation and integration with existing build and test pipelines.
  • Collaborate with firmware, electrical, electromechanical, and product teams on integration, verification, and release activities. Demonstrate technical leadership by proposing improvements, explaining technical tradeoffs, and contributing solutions during reviews.
  • Own assigned deliverables from planning through completion: estimate effort, track progress, meet agreed acceptance criteria, and raise dependencies or blockers promptly. Seek technical input when needed while remaining accountable for results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in embedded software/firmware development, software integration, or automated verification, including hands-on software development and testing.
  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or another language used for embedded development or test automation; experience writing maintainable software and automated tests.
  • Experience developing test procedures, evaluating results against requirements, and documenting defects and verification evidence.
  • Working knowledge of embedded software concepts, including build tools, logging, state machines, and fault handling.
  • Hands-on hardware/software integration and debugging experience with embedded interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, or Ethernet, and familiarity with bench instrumentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot software behavior, communications, timing, and hardware/software interactions using a structured approach.
  • Experience with version control and software development workflows; proficiency with Windows-based development environments and engineering tools.
  • Must be a U.S. person due to ITAR regulations.
  • Motion control or industrial automation experience, including servo systems, drive/controller integration, feedback devices, or performance characterization.
  • Familiarity with EtherCAT, CANopen, RTOS, embedded Linux, or board bring-up.
  • Experience with HIL/SIL testing, automated bench systems, fault injection, or protocol and timing analysis.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or test frameworks such as Azure Pipelines, Jenkins, or Robot Framework.
  • Exposure to CODESYS, IEC 61131-3, MATLAB/Simulink, or related controls software.
