ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER Sargent Electric is a leading specialty contractor focused on electrical, instrumentation, wireless, utility, and low voltage systems. We are seeking to hire an Assistant Project Manager in our East Chicago, Indiana office. The Assistant Project Manager plays a key role in supporting the successful planning, execution, and completion of electrical construction projects, including large-scale, multi-million-dollar commercial and industrial projects. This position works closely with project teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards and customer expectations. This position may require occasional travel or relocation based on project needs. WHAT YOU’LL DO:• Assist with tracking project costs, budgets, productivity, and overall project performance.

  • Support project planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout activities.
  • Help ensure project objectives related to safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance are achieved.
  • Collaborate with field supervision, division leadership, and support departments to coordinate project activities and resources.
  • Support Project Managers and Senior Project Managers with labor and cost tracking, material procurement and submittals, subcontractor coordination, contract administration, compliance requirements, and schedule management.
  • Participate in all phases of project delivery, from project kickoff through final closeout.
  • Assist with estimating, proposal preparation, bidding activities, and business development efforts as needed.
  • Support employee development and training initiatives by providing input, feedback, and sharing best practices.
  • Maintain a visible presence on project sites through regular site visits to monitor progress, identify opportunities for improvement, and foster strong working relationships with project teams.
  • Help ensure all work is completed safely, meets company quality standards, and complies with project plans, specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, customers, subcontractors, vendors, and leadership at all levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to team success through collaboration, initiative, and sound decision-making.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, scheduling practices, project controls, and industry technology.
  • Professional, customer-focused approach with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and follow through on commitments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and construction/project management software is preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and promoting a strong safety culture.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a construction-related role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
