Overview
BRMi is seeking a mid-level Data Analyst to support the remediation of a large data governance backlog. This role will focus on identifying and prioritizing key data tables, developing required governance documentation, and working across technical and business teams to make enterprise data easier to understand, trust, and reuse.
The ideal candidate combines strong SQL and data analysis skills with experience in data governance, documentation, project coordination, and stakeholder communication. Power BI experience is strongly preferred.
As the governance backlog is addressed, this role may evolve into a broader Business Intelligence-focused position involving Power BI, SQL, data modeling, and data storytelling.

Responsibilities
- Lead and track remediation activities for a large data governance backlog.
- Identify and prioritize tables requiring governance review and documentation.
- Create and maintain data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings (STTM), Critical Data Element (CDE) documentation, metadata, and data lineage documentation.
- Use SQL to analyze and profile data, validate fields, investigate data quality, and understand joins, transformations, and business rules.
- Work with data owners, analysts, subject matter experts, and governance teams to gather and validate data definitions.
- Ensure governance artifacts meet established enterprise standards and documentation requirements.
- Track remediation progress, dependencies, risks, blockers, and outstanding deliverables.
- Translate technical findings into clear updates for both technical and business stakeholders.
- Help make governed datasets easier for internal teams to discover, understand, and reuse.
- Develop dashboards and reporting, preferably using Power BI, to track backlog remediation, artifact completion, risks, and overall data readiness.
- Identify opportunities to improve governance processes, documentation templates, quality controls, and repeatable workflows.
- Support future BI and analytics initiatives as governance remediation progresses.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Strong SQL skills with experience querying, profiling, validating, and analyzing large datasets.
- Experience working with relational databases, tables, joins, transformations, and data structures.
- Experience creating or maintaining data governance documentation such as:
- Data dictionaries
- Source-to-target mappings (STTM)
- Data lineage
- Metadata documentation
- Business definitions
- Critical Data Elements (CDEs)
- Understanding of data governance concepts including data ownership, stewardship, metadata management, data quality, and governed data access.
- Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL/ELT processes.
- Experience investigating data quality issues and validating business and technical data definitions.
- Strong project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, dependencies, deadlines, and stakeholders.
- Ability to gather and clarify business requirements and resolve ambiguous data definitions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and business audiences.
- Experience working with analysts, data owners, engineers, governance teams, and business stakeholders.
- Strong Excel skills and experience maintaining project inventories, documentation, status reporting, and deliverable tracking.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired:
- Power BI experience developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
- Experience using Power BI to communicate project progress, backlog status, risks, KPIs, or business insights.
- Microsoft Purview or similar data catalog/governance platform experience.
- Experience supporting enterprise data governance or data remediation initiatives.
- Experience with semantic models, curated datasets, certified data products, or self-service BI.
- Strong data storytelling and presentation skills.
- Experience supporting cross-functional or enterprise-level data initiatives.
- PMP, Agile certification, or comparable project management experience.
