About the Role

VE3 is looking for an experienced Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations Platform & DevOps Engineer to take technical ownership of D365 F&O environments, deployments, release management, Azure DevOps and platform operations.

We are looking for someone who understands how a large enterprise D365 F&O platform is administered, deployed, maintained, upgraded, monitored and supported across development, test, UAT and production environments.

The successful candidate will work closely with D365 developers, functional consultants, solution architects, infrastructure/cloud teams and customer stakeholders to provide a reliable and controlled engineering and release capability for Dynamics 365 F&O.

The role would suit someone with a background in Dynamics AX / D365 F&O administration combined with Azure DevOps, release engineering, production deployment and Microsoft cloud technologies.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

D365 F&O Platform & Environment Management

• Manage

and support Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations environments across development, test, UAT, sandbox and production.

• Administer

D365 F&O environments through Microsoft Lifecycle Services and associated Microsoft platform services.

• Coordinate

environment provisioning, refreshes, database movement and environment maintenance activities.

• Manage

sandbox-to-production release processes and production deployment activities.

• Plan

and execute application updates, platform updates, servicing activities and environment upgrades.

• Maintain

environment configuration and ensure consistency across the D365 landscape.

• Support

troubleshooting of application, deployment, environment and infrastructure-related issues.

• Coordinate

planned maintenance and minimise disruption to business-critical environments.

Azure DevOps & CI/CD

• Own

and continuously improve Azure DevOps processes supporting D365 F&O engineering.

• Design,

configure and maintain build and release pipelines.

• Automate

build, packaging, validation and deployment processes wherever practical.

• Manage

branching, source control, pull requests and release governance.

• Establish

appropriate deployment gates, approvals and quality controls.

• Maintain

release artefacts and traceability between requirements, code, builds and deployments.

• Work

with development teams to improve deployment reliability and shorten release cycles.

• Troubleshoot

failed builds and deployments and coordinate remediation.

Release & Deployment Management

• Own

the technical release process from development through to production.

• Create

and maintain deployment schedules, release plans, rollback plans and implementation runbooks.

• Coordinate

dependencies across technical and functional workstreams.

• Manage

software deployable packages and validate packages prior to production deployment.

• Perform

or coordinate production deployments under controlled change-management processes.

• Ensure

releases are tested and technically validated before promotion.

• Support

out-of-hours or scheduled production releases when required.

• Perform

post-deployment validation and coordinate resolution of release-related incidents.

Dynamics AX / D365 Technical Administration

• Bring

strong knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX and Dynamics 365 F&O architecture and administration.

• Understand

D365 application topology, environments, databases, integration points and deployment architecture.

• Support

database refreshes, data movement and environment cloning activities.

• Assist

technical teams with troubleshooting performance, integration and environment issues.

• Work

with developers on D365 development lifecycle and deployment requirements.

• Support

implementation and management of integrations between D365 F&O and other enterprise platforms.

Azure & Microsoft Cloud

• Support

Azure services used within the wider D365 solution architecture.

• Understand

Azure identity, networking, monitoring and integration concepts relevant to enterprise D365 implementations.

• Work

with Microsoft Entra ID for identity and access requirements.

• Support

integration of D365 with Azure-hosted services and enterprise applications.

• Work

alongside cloud engineering teams where D365 solutions depend on Azure services.

Power Platform

• Understand

the relationship between Dynamics 365 F&O, Microsoft Dataverse and the Power Platform.

• Support

environments where D365 F&O integrates with Power Apps, Power Automate or Dataverse.

• Understand

environment administration and deployment considerations across the Microsoft business applications ecosystem.

• Experience

with dual-write or other D365 F&O/Dataverse integration approaches would be advantageous.

Production Operations & Support

• Provide

technical support for production D365 F&O environments.

• Diagnose

deployment, integration, configuration and platform issues.

• Work

with application support teams to perform root-cause analysis.

• Support

incident, problem and change-management processes.

• Maintain

operational documentation and standard operating procedures.

• Identify

recurring issues and introduce automation or engineering improvements to reduce them.

• Participate

in major incident resolution where D365 platform expertise is required.

Monitoring & Performance

• Monitor

platform health and identify potential operational issues.

• Work

with Microsoft monitoring and Azure monitoring capabilities as appropriate.

• Analyse

errors, logs, batch processes and environment telemetry.

• Support

troubleshooting of performance issues and technical bottlenecks.

• Work

with Microsoft support where product-level escalation is required.

Security & Governance

• Follow

secure deployment and environment-management practices.

• Support

access control and privileged access processes for D365 environments.

• Maintain

separation between development and production responsibilities where required.

• Ensure

production changes are appropriately authorised, documented and auditable.

• Support

customer security, compliance and change-control requirements.

The candidate does not necessarily need to be the primary X++ developer, but should understand the development lifecycle sufficiently well to work closely with developers and diagnose build, packaging and deployment issues.

Experience Required

We would normally expect:

• 5+

years of overall Microsoft Dynamics / enterprise application experience.

• 3+

years of hands-on Dynamics 365 F&O experience.

• Strong

previous experience with Dynamics AX would be beneficial.

• Significant

hands-on Azure DevOps experience.

• Proven

responsibility for D365 production deployments.

• Experience

supporting multiple D365 environments within enterprise programmes.

• Experience

managing releases into production.

• Experience

working within structured change-management and production-support processes.

• Experience

working with geographically distributed development and support teams.

Certifications

Microsoft certifications are desirable, particularly:

Equivalent practical experience is more important than certification alone.
