About the Role

BigTime is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Technology Team in Chicago. You'll build and maintain the infrastructure, pipelines, and automation that let our engineering teams ship reliably and often. Our platform runs on AWS in a mixed environment that is primarily Windows with some Linux-based services, so you'll work across both.

We're looking for someone who is self-reliant, comfortable working independently, and brings a service-first, pragmatic mindset to working with internal and external stakeholders. If you enjoy automating the manual work nobody else wants to touch, this role is a great fit.

What You'll Do

•       Infrastructure as Code: Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Terragrunt, with AWS CDK where it fits.

•       AWS Management: Deploy, configure, and manage AWS services including EC2, S3, and managed databases such as RDS (including SQL Server on RDS), ElastiCache, and DocumentDB.

•       Containers & Kubernetes: Run containerized workloads on Amazon EKS, ECS, and App Runner. Maintain Helm charts and manage deployments with Helmfile.

•       CI/CD: Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines that automate build, test, and deployment, and help standardize deployment processes across products.

•       Automation: Write scripts and tooling that replace manual processes and cut down on repetitive operational work.

•       Patching & Maintenance: Keep services upgraded and patched across our Windows and Linux environments, and maintain configuration management tooling.

•       Monitoring & Observability: Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and tracing with tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, the Prometheus stack, and OpenTelemetry.

•       Security & Compliance: Work with external auditors to maintain access controls, encryption, and vulnerability management in line with our SOC 2 certification.

•       Collaboration: Partner with development and QA teams on smooth releases, including supporting serverless architectures in production.

•       Documentation: Write and maintain documentation for infrastructure, processes, and procedures, and contribute to our Disaster Recovery and Incident Response playbooks.

Who You Are

•       3+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role

•       Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience

•       Hands-on experience with AWS services and best practices

•       Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform

•       Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes, including Helm

•       Proficiency with Git and GitLab CI/CD

•       Experience deploying and monitoring .NET applications

•       Scripting skills in at least one of Python, PowerShell, Bash, or C#

•       Comfort working across Windows and Linux environments

•       Working knowledge of SQL, ideally SQL Server

•       Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills

•       A habit of documenting your work as you go

Nice to Have

•       AWS certification(s) or other relevant certifications, such as Terraform or Kubernetes

•       Experience with serverless computing, particularly AWS Lambda

•       Experience with OpenTelemetry

•       Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible

•       Experience building highly available, scalable cloud infrastructure

•       Familiarity with Azure or GCP

•       Familiarity with DevOps and Agile methodologies

•       Knowledge of cloud security best practices

The expected salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $128,000 annually. The actual salary will be determined on an individualized basis, taking into account a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, and, where applicable, licenses or certifications held. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, this position may be eligible for additional types of compensation such as bonuses.
