Job Title:                               Business Analyst - Pharmacist (Part time)

Reporting to:                       Pharmacy Working Group Lead

Location:                              Open to all Locations/Hybrid Working Model

Job Purpose:

BSHS is partnering with Meditech to implement Meditech Expanse, an electronic health record (EHR), across all five Bon Secours hospitals by the summer of 2025. Working groups are divided into the following three streams:

  • Revenue Cycle
  • Technical
  • Clinical

Within the clinical stream are ten different working groups: Patient Access, Pharmacy, Pathology/Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, Medical Records, Ambulatory/MAU, Inpatient Medicine, Theatre, Oncology, and Interprofessional/Nursing.

The role will participate in the Pharmacy working group which builds, configures, tests, documents the Electronic Health Record.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Play an instrumental role in the implementation and ongoing development of electronic medical records.
  • Gather requirements, develop dictionary standards, develop site-specific and corporate content.
  • Work with assigned user areas (pharmacy, nursing, inpatient medicine) in regard to system optimisation and project related work.
  • Clinically review pharmacy drug dictionary entries (routes of administration, label comments, associated lab values, common doses associated with formulary medications) following defined validation guidelines.
  • Attend vendor educations sessions as part of the working group and provide forward thinking innovative solutions and identify opportunities to add value to the project.
  • Work closely with members of the Stream Leadership Team and READY Consultants for the pharmacy module.
  • Recommend system functionality and access.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate systems, processes and workflows to ensure the movement of information throughout the pharmacy Working Group.
  • Provide Business Analyst support as required (System testing, including high level validation, functional integrated, and parallel testing).
  • Assist in development of training materials for use in super-user and end-user training and provide end-user training as required.

Essential criteria:

  • M. Pharm. qualification
  • Registration with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) or entitlement to be registered.  
  • Have at least one (1) year of satisfactory post-qualification experience in a hospital setting
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Proven multi-tasking experience whilst maintaining a high attention to detail

Desirable criteria:

  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD)
  • Previous employment in a healthcare setting where an electronic health record was implemented
  • I.T project / health informatics experience
  • Familiarity with hospital pharmacy drug formularies, e.g. procurement rotations completed
