About the Role
As a senior member of the Project Services Team, the Network Engineer Team Lead architects and implements complex network infrastructures across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments (Azure, AWS), partnering with the Network Architect on solution design and review, while leading and developing the network engineering function. The role combines deep technical expertise with leadership: setting standards, mentoring engineers, and ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery.
Serving as the technical authority for all network engagements, the Team Lead is accountable for quality, documentation, and risk management, and for resolving advanced networking issues across the client base, taking projects from inception to production and end-user attestation.
Technical Responsibilities
- Architect and implement complex on-premises, virtual, and cloud (AWS/Azure) network infrastructures, taking projects from inception through production and end-user attestation.
- Partner with the Network Team Architect to design, review, and validate network solutions prior to implementation.
- Troubleshoot network-impacting outages quickly and efficiently in unfamiliar environments, with minimal client impact.
- Implement and support advanced routing (OSPF, BGP, VRRP, HSRP), L2 technologies (STP variants, 802.1x, 802.1ad), and core services (DHCP, DNS, RADIUS/NPS).
- Design and troubleshoot VPN and tunneling technologies, including SSL/TLS, IPSEC, policy-based VPNs, and GRE.
- Work hands-on in the CLI across Cisco, Palo Alto, SonicWall, Meraki, Fortinet, Aruba, and Ruckus platforms.
- Standardize and maintain accurate documentation of client network environments before handoff to support teams.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and coaching to network engineers and project resources from technical oversight
- Review network designs, implementation plans, and documentation before client delivery.
- Serve as the senior escalation point for complex networking challenges and lead high-visibility engagements.
- Identify risks early, drive process improvement and automation, and partner with the Engineering, Escalations, and Service Desk teams on seamless handoffs.
- Support the Network Team Manager with interviews and hiring of the network engineers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Experience: 3-5 years of high-level, hands-on networking experience, ideally within an MSP or multi-client environment.
- Networking: Deep expertise in the TCP/IP stack, L2/L3 forwarding, advanced routing (OSPF, BGP, VRRP, HSRP), and L2 technologies (STP, 802.1x, 802.1ad).
- Services & Security: Hands-on with DHCP, DNS, RADIUS (NPS), and VPN/tunneling (SSL/TLS, IPSEC, GRE).
- Vendor Platforms: CLI-level experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, SonicWall, Meraki, Fortinet, Aruba, and Ruckus.
- Cloud: Strong understanding of AWS and Azure networking.
- Leadership & Communication: Proven ability to mentor engineers, set standards, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Certifications: Cisco CCNA or greater, AWS Solutions Architect, and/or Azure Network Engineer certification (or similar) preferred.
Role Logistics
- This is a full-time, exempt position.
- This position may require travel to clients or company offices as needed.
