About the Role
As Senior Project Manager – Energy Storage Projects, you will play a key role in building WLF Energy's growing behind-the-meter battery storage business.
You will take ownership of customer projects across their full lifecycle – from analysing customer sites and developing technically and commercially viable solutions through contracting, project execution and commissioning.
You will work directly with industrial and commercial customers and coordinate technical, commercial and legal workstreams across each project. This includes working with internal teams as well as EPC and O&M contractors, equipment suppliers, grid operators, permitting authorities and other external partners.
The role combines end-to-end project delivery, customer management and commercial project responsibility. As the BTM business grows, you will also have the opportunity to help build and lead a small project team.
This role is based in Germany and follows a hybrid working model, combining remote work, office presence in Frankfurt and regular travel to customer sites. The position does not require you to live in Frankfurt.
What You'll Do
- Drive BTM storage projects end-to-end – from the initial customer and site assessment through development, construction and commissioning
- Assess customer sites and energy infrastructure, including energy demand, load profiles, existing infrastructure and the technical and commercial feasibility of battery storage solutions
- Coordinate grid connection, technical integration and permitting, working closely with customers, grid operators, authorities and external partners
- Lead customer and contract management, including the development and negotiation of customer-specific commercial models and coordination of EPC, O&M and supply contracts
- Manage project delivery across technical, commercial and legal workstreams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget
- Oversee construction and commissioning activities, including the installation and integration of battery storage systems and successful handover into operation
- Coordinate key stakeholders across customers, internal teams, EPC contractors, suppliers, grid operators and authorities
- Manage schedules, budgets and risks throughout the project lifecycle and take ownership of solving issues as they arise
- Contribute to the growth of our BTM business and, over time, help build and develop a small project team
What We're Looking For
Experience & Knowledge
- Degree in Engineering, Energy, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration or a related field – or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of experience managing and delivering complex energy infrastructure projects
- Proven hands-on experience with customer-sited energy projects, ideally BTM battery storage or comparable industrial energy infrastructure such as solar or energy management
- Experience managing projects from development through construction and commissioning
- Strong experience working directly with industrial or commercial customers in a technical and commercial environment
- Experience coordinating complex stakeholders, including customers, contractors, suppliers, grid operators and authorities
- Good understanding of contracting, EPC/O&M structures, project budgets, risk management, grid connection and permitting
- Strong understanding of the technical and commercial fundamentals of battery energy storage systems
- Experience with project financing is a plus
- Fluent German and English
Skills & Personal Attributes
- Hands-on and entrepreneurial – you take ownership and are comfortable getting into the details
- Customer-focused – you enjoy building trusted relationships and working directly with customers
- Strong project leadership – you can manage complex projects across multiple workstreams and stakeholders
- Commercially minded – you understand the technical, operational and economic requirements of successful projects
- Strong communicator and negotiator – confident working with customers, contractors, authorities and senior stakeholders
- Structured and pragmatic – able to manage priorities, budgets, schedules and risks while finding practical solutions
- Comfortable in a fast-moving environment – you enjoy building processes and structures rather than simply following established ones
- Collaborative leader – you enjoy working across functions and have the potential to help build and develop a growing project team
Success in the First 12 Months
- Collaborate with our sales team to build up a portfolio of energy storage projects
- Deliver projects safely, on schedule and within agreed budgets
- Successfully coordinate complex technical, commercial and contractual workstreams across the project lifecycle
- Establish effective project management, reporting and risk management practices for the growing BTM business
- Contribute to scaling WLF Energy's BTM energy storage business and help build the foundations of a growing project team
