SENIOR REACT NATIVE ENGINEER (MOBILE)
Location: Cape Town or Randburg
Our client is a well established media technology company behind some of South Africa's most recognised digital brands. They are looking to bring a Senior React Native Engineer into their mobile teamand we've been asked to source suitable candidates on their behalf.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced mobile engineer who wants to work on high traffic, high impact products used by millions of South Africans every day, within a team that genuinely invests in its people and technology.
Minimum educational requirement, please read carefully:
Our client has been explicit on this point: candidates must hold, at minimum, an Honours degree in a relevant software engineering or computer science field, obtained from a mainstream, recognised South African university. A Master's degree is preferred and will count in a candidate's favour. This is a non negotiable requirement for this role, so please only put forward candidates who meet it.
What the role involves:
The successful candidate will work on and help grow a suite of mobile applications, take part in peer code reviews, and hold the team to agreed best practices and coding standards. They'll contribute to ongoing conversations about improving the codebase and development lifecycle, and will work closely with Product Managers and UX Designers to translate user needs into sound technical solutions. The role also involves researching best practice approaches, building proof of concept work, writing unit tests and documentation, and contributing to development effort estimates.
What we're looking for:
- An Honours degree in software engineering or a related field (Master's preferred), from a mainstream South African university, non negotiable
- 5+ years of development experience, including at least 3 years working in React or React Native
- A strong grasp of core programming paradigms and solution design
- Hands on React or React Native experience is essential. React Native experience is preferred
- Good understanding of UI design and visual communication is an advantage
- Comfortable operating in a small, fast paced environment with real ownership and responsibility
- Strong communicator, able to work confidently across Product, UX/UI, QA and other business stakeholders
Nice to have:
- Native iOS or Android development experience
- Functional React and Redux experience
- TypeScript
- Experience consuming RESTful APIs
- Git and agile tooling experience, Azure DevOps in particular
