Typical Roles & Responsibilities
- Define and drive product vision, strategy, and execution from 0 to 1
- Conduct user research and customer discovery to validate product-market fit
- Develop MVPs, iterate quickly, and scale successful features based on feedback
- Collaborate with engineering, design, and leadership teams to bring products to life
- Own roadmap planning, prioritization, and agile development cycles
- Establish metrics and KPIs to track product success and engagement
- Drive go-to-market strategy, product positioning, and competitive differentiation
- Create specifications, wireframes, and user stories to guide development
- Influence company growth strategy and business decisions through data-driven insights
Common Qualifications
While each startup has its own hiring criteria, many founding product manager roles in our network look for:
- 3+ years of experience in product management, preferably at an early-stage startup
- Experience launching 0 to 1 products, building MVPs, and iterating based on user feedback
- Strong ability to synthesize user research, data, and market insights into product decisions
- Comfortable working with agile development, sprints, and cross-functional teams
- Experience defining product roadmaps and feature prioritization frameworks
- Strong understanding of customer psychology, UX, and data-driven product iteration
- Familiarity with analytics tools (Amplitude, Mixpanel, Google Analytics) to track engagement
- Experience with SaaS, AI, fintech, marketplaces, or developer tools is a plus
