The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.

Who we are looking for:

Slate is looking for an experienced Data Engineer II to help our company be successful in the electric vehicle space.  You must be able to thrive and succeed in a fast-paced startup environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities.  Your contributions will have a direct impact on the company’s success as the data team is building a self-serve data platform to create business insights and drive critical decision making

What you get to do:

  • Design, build and maintain scalable, high‑performance data pipelines (ETL/ELT), batch and real‑time, using cloud platforms
  • Architect data models and manage structured, semi‑structured and unstructured datasets to support analytics, business intelligence, machine learning, and operational needs
  • Collaborate with analysts, engineers and business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate into robust data solutions
  • Implement, test and document efficient data transformations, ingestion routines and storage strategies with strong code quality standards
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data quality, lineage, system health and performance
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies and best practices to improve infrastructure, cost, scalability and governance

What you bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years experience building data pipelines, modeling, warehousing and ETL/ELT processes
  • Experience with large, complex datasets from many internal and external data systems.
  • Experience with one or more scripting/programming languages (Python, Java, Scala, Bash, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud data technologies (e.g. AWS, Spark, Redshift, S3, Glue)
  • Familiarity with monitoring systems to ensure that data updates are both timely and complete (e.g., Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, etc).
  • Familiarity with data catalog tooling and lineage tracking for data self-service (e.g., Atlan, OpenMetaData, etc.)
  • Familiarity with data governance and data management frameworks (e.g., Lake Formation, IAM, etc.)
  • Familiarity with metadata management, lineage tracking and security/compliance in data systems
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audiences

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to financially sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for this opportunity currently.
