Responsibilities
Peraton's Department of Interior (DOI) CHS III program is leading the way for Cloud Hosting and Applications Modernization across DOI and its subordinate bureaus. CHS III is facilitating the migration of legacy on-premises applications to a modern, secure and scalable multi-cloud platform. From sensors in active volcanic regions to earthquake detection data, CHS III is DOI's central cloud processing and data solution.
Peraton is seeking an experienced Windows Server / IIS Administrator to join our team supporting a federal cloud hosting and enterprise architecture program for a major U.S. civilian agency. In this fully remote role, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and security hardening of Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure and Internet Information Services (IIS) web environments that support mission-critical data and application delivery operations. You will work alongside a collaborative DevOps and cloud engineering team, contributing to a secure, high-availability cloud ecosystem built on AWS. Day To Day Roles and Responsibilities
- Administer, patch, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, and newer versions) within an AWS-hosted Federal cloud infrastructure
- Configure, manage, and optimize Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) web servers, including application pools, bindings, SSL/TLS certificates, and site-level configurations
- Apply security hardening measures in accordance with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), NIST SP 800-53 controls, and agency-specific security policies
- Monitor Windows Server and IIS health, performance, and availability using enterprise observability tools (DataDog); triage and resolve incidents in alignment with defined Service Level Agreement (SLA) tiers
- Coordinate with the DevOps engineering team on Windows-related infrastructure activities, including CI/CD pipeline integration, infrastructure-as-code (IaC) support, and automated deployment workflows
- Support FISMA compliance activities, including vulnerability management, Information Assurance Vulnerability Alert (IAVA) remediation, and preparation of security documentation and audit artifacts
- Respond to critical infrastructure incidents within established SLA response windows (12-hour acknowledgment for Critical/High-tier issues); participate in on-call rotation as needed
- Maintain runbooks, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and system documentation to support knowledge transfer and operational continuity
- Contribute to planned maintenance window coordination, communicating impacts and scheduling downtime in advance with program leadership and Government stakeholders
- Support onboarding and environment preparation activities to maintain Day 1 operational readiness at task order start
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree and 10 years professional experience or a Masters degree and 8 years professional experience or an Associates degree and 12 years professional experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and 14 years’ professional experience.
- U.S. Citizenship required; must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft Windows Server environments (2016, 2019+) in a production setting
- 3+ years of experience managing Microsoft IIS web servers, including application pool management, site configuration, SSL/TLS administration, and performance tuning
- Demonstrated experience applying security configurations and STIGs to Windows Server environments in Federal or regulated environments
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 security controls and FISMA compliance requirements
- Experience with enterprise monitoring tools (e.g., DataDog, SolarWinds, Splunk, or equivalent) for server health and availability monitoring
- Working knowledge of AWS cloud services relevant to Windows workloads (e.g., EC2, Systems Manager, S3, CloudWatch)
- Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for administration, automation, and configuration management tasks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document procedures clearly and communicate status to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator (strongly preferred)
- Experience in Federal civilian agency IT environments (DOI, USGS, or similar agency a plus)
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
- Experience integrating Windows Server patching and compliance into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions)
- Knowledge of AWS Managed Services and hybrid cloud architectures combining on-premises Windows infrastructure with AWS-hosted workloads
- Exposure to Agile project management environments (Jira, sprint-based workflows)
- AWS Certified Security Specialty, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Server+, or equivalent security certification
- Prior experience supporting or contributing to ATO (Authority to Operate) package development or C&A activities
- Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements for web content served through IIS

Target Salary Range
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. EEO
