Nsight Health — Where Technology Meets Compassion.

Position Summary

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer who wants to own the platform other engineers build on — and then progressively automate it until AI agents are operating it alongside you. This is not a ticket-queue sysadmin role. It is not a ClickOps seat. It is a deliberate, three-phase engineering career opportunity for someone who has shipped and operated real software, understands what makes a developer’s day fast or slow, and wants to apply real engineering discipline to infrastructure, delivery, and the frontier of AI-operated systems.

You are joining an AWS environment that exists — multiple accounts, managed databases, data pipelines, containerized and serverless workloads, and infrastructure defined in code. Your job is to learn it from the inside, make it reproducible and verifiably compliant, and then build the platform layer that lets AI agents do infrastructure and delivery work autonomously, with you supervising rather than executing. The destination is a dark factory: scoped, auditable cloud access for agent sessions, ephemeral environments provisioned on demand, and a pipeline that turns a ticket into a validated, deployed change without a human in the loop for every step.

You start in operations because that is how you earn the platform knowledge everything else depends on. Every alert, every security finding, every access request is a lesson in how the platform actually behaves in production. The engineers who thrive here are the ones who see that and lean in — not the ones who want to skip ahead to the interesting parts.

AI Fluency Requirement - Non-Negotiable

Nsight Health is an AI-first organization. Every member of our leadership and operations team is expected to actively use AI tools in their day-to-day work - not as a novelty, but as a core productivity multiplier. This role requires genuine curiosity about AI, comfort experimenting with tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and workflow automation platforms, and the judgment to know when AI helps and when it doesn't. If AI makes you uncomfortable, this is not the right role.

Key Responsibilities

Operations and Reliability: Own alert triage, incident response, root-cause analysis, and blameless postmortems. Be the person who knows why the platform did what it did. Write the runbooks that are missing, close the gaps you find, and leave every incident better documented than you found it. Maintain backup and replication health and own the operational surface across all AWS accounts.

Security Remediation and Hygiene: Triage and remediate security findings as they surface. Treat an out-of-date package as a defect with an owner, not a cleanup project. Keep dependencies, base images, and runtimes current on a defined schedule rather than reactively after an incident. Own IAM roles and permission boundaries, break-glass procedures, and credential models for both human and AI-agent workloads.

Infrastructure as Code: Own Terraform modules, state, and conventions for platform infrastructure. Bring any resources still managed by hand under code. Define the module conventions, review process, and automated checks the infrastructure runs on. Ensure every change flows through controls that keep the organization within HITRUST r2 and SOC 2 obligations, with evidence generated automatically rather than assembled at audit time.

CI/CD and Release Engineering: Own GitHub Actions workflows for build, test, and deployment across environments. Define environment promotion strategy and maintain the delivery metrics that show whether shipping is getting faster and safer. Remove friction from the pipeline: slow builds, manual steps, unclear environment parity, and undocumented conventions are problems with owners.

Developer Experience: Own the time between “I need X” and “I have X” for the engineering team. Build self-service paths for environment provisioning, access workflows, and internal tooling so engineers get what they need without filing a ticket. Ship measurable developer-experience improvements and track the time they save.

AI-Operated Infrastructure: Build the access model, ephemeral environments, and pipeline gates that let AI coding agents work on infrastructure and application code safely over extended sessions. Provide design input on how agents will provision, change, and validate infrastructure. Progressively automate the work you do manually until the pipeline runs with you supervising it rather than operating it.

The Impact You’ll Make

The Platform Everyone Else Builds On: Every engineer at Nsight Health ships faster or slower based on the platform you build and maintain. The developer-experience improvements you deliver, the deployment pipelines you own, and the self-service infrastructure you create are what separate a team that moves with confidence from one that moves with friction.

Compliance That Holds Up: Nsight Health operates in a HIPAA-regulated environment managing patient data for 350-plus clinics. The controls you build into the pipeline — the automated evidence, the policy-as-code gates, the PHI data-flow boundaries — are what keep the organization audit-ready and trustworthy. That is not background work. It is foundational.

The Engineer Who Builds the AI Factory: The three-phase progression in this role ends somewhere very few engineers have been: a platform where AI agents provision, change, and validate infrastructure autonomously, with a human in the supervisor seat rather than the operator seat. You will not just work with AI tooling. You will build the infrastructure that makes AI-operated engineering possible at scale.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Hands-on software engineering background — likely backend, platform, or developer-experience work — with demonstrated ability to read, write, and debug production code and operate something you built.
  • Working familiarity with at least one major cloud provider and a strong appetite to go deep on AWS; understands the difference between a service and a primitive and learns new ones by using them.
  • Some hands-on exposure to infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform; has written or modified modules, run a plan and apply, and wants to do significantly more of it.
  • Comfortable writing, debugging, and deploying with GitHub Actions, including workflows, reusable actions, secrets handling, and environment protections.
  • Security-conscious by default: keeps packages, images, and runtimes current; reads vulnerability reports and acts on them; thinks about blast radius and least privilege before convenience.
  • Strong scripting and automation instincts: when you do something twice by hand, you write the tool.
  • Systems thinking: able to trace a request through a load balancer, container, queue, and database and reason about where it broke.
  • Experience operating under a compliance framework such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar; prior work with PHI, HIPAA, or HITRUST is a meaningful plus.
  • Steady under pressure with the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams without dropping threads.
  • Clear, direct communicator: able to write a runbook an on-call engineer can follow at 3 a.m. and a postmortem that fixes the system rather than blames a person.
  • Active daily use of Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent AI-assisted development tools. This is a hard requirement.

Preferred:

  • Depth in multi-account AWS governance including organizational structure, guardrails, and centralized logging and key management.
  • Prior experience building or operating a platform for AI coding agents, including scoped cloud access, ephemeral environments, or policy-as-code pipeline gates.
  • Experience working alongside senior technical leaders and delivering within technical standards set by others.
  • Exposure to healthcare data environments, HIPAA-regulated data flows, or HITRUST r2 certification processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience will be weighted heavily over educational credentials alone.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base pay: $135,000 – $165,000 annually.

Additional Compensation:

  • Performance-Based Bonus: Eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance.

Benefits Include:

  • PTO Accrual
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and supplemental insurance options
  • 401(k) Plan with 3.5% Company Match
  • Company-provided equipment
