Full description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Java Backend Software Engineer based in Brazil.

As a Java Backend Software Engineer, you will design and build robust, scalable distributed systems that power a mission-critical SaaS platform. You will work on high-performance integrations, microservices, and data pipelines supporting complex business workflows around the clock. The role offers significant technical depth, with opportunities to influence architecture, drive technical decisions, and grow into greater levels of responsibility. You will collaborate closely with Product, DevOps, SRE, and fellow engineers to deliver reliable features and strengthen platform performance. You will take end-to-end ownership of systems, from design and implementation through observability, production support, and continuous improvement. The environment values engineering quality, distributed ownership, mentorship, innovation, and thoughtful architectural practices. This is an opportunity to make a broad technical impact while working with modern cloud-native technologies in a highly distributed engineering environment.

Accountabilities:

  • Design and implement high-performance, fault-tolerant connector integrations and adapters capable of reliably supporting mission-critical business workflows 24x7x365.
  • Architect and develop distributed microservices using cloud-native patterns such as circuit breakers, bulkheads, and comprehensive observability for multi-tenant SaaS environments.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines supporting REST, SOAP, GraphQL, gRPC, webhooks, and synchronous, asynchronous, and event-driven communication patterns.
  • Drive technical decisions for critical subsystems, contribute to RFCs and architectural reviews, and help establish effective system design practices.
  • Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing while taking ownership of the operational health and observability of deployed systems.
  • Collaborate with Product, DevOps, SRE, and engineering teams to deliver new capabilities, troubleshoot production incidents, and improve overall platform reliability.
  • Champion engineering best practices through code reviews, comprehensive testing strategies, security hardening, performance optimization, and reliability improvements.
  • Contribute to platform infrastructure and developer experience initiatives that improve productivity and capabilities across the wider engineering organization.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their development in system design, architectural patterns, coding practices, and technical problem-solving.

Requirements:

  • Strong professional experience designing and building large-scale distributed backend systems with high-throughput and low-latency requirements.
  • Proven experience working with production multi-tenant SaaS architectures, including a deep understanding of tenant isolation, rate limiting, and resource management.
  • Advanced ability to drive system design discussions, contribute to architectural decisions, and mentor engineers on design patterns and engineering best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose complex production issues across distributed systems.
  • Deep knowledge of microservices architecture, including service decomposition, API design, and inter-service communication patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, together with practical knowledge of Kubernetes and serverless architectures.
  • Strong foundation in software engineering principles, including SOLID, design patterns, system design, and unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies.
  • Expert-level Java 8+ experience, including object-oriented programming, concurrency, performance tuning, memory management, garbage collection, and the broader Java ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Guava, and Netty.
  • Strong knowledge of APIs and communication protocols including REST, SOAP, GraphQL, and gRPC, as well as HTTP semantics, caching, rate limiting, and error handling.
  • Hands-on experience with message brokers and event-streaming technologies such as RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, AWS SQS/SNS, or comparable solutions, including at-least-once delivery, dead-letter queues, and stream processing.
  • Strong SQL expertise, including query optimization and indexing, plus experience with NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, or Cassandra and their consistency trade-offs.
  • Proficiency with Docker and practical production experience with Kubernetes or other container runtimes.
  • Advanced Git experience, including branching strategies, rebasing, cherry-picking, and collaboration through GitHub or similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps tooling such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and ArgoCD, with the ability to create build pipelines, deployment scripts, and infrastructure-as-code using technologies such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Comfortable working with Linux command-line environments and knowledgeable about operating system concepts including memory allocation, processes, file systems, and networking.
  • Experience with observability technologies covering logging, metrics, and distributed tracing, including tools such as ELK, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, or Zipkin.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a quality-first mindset, proactive ownership, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and distributed environment.

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to work with a growing technology leader in the Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) space.
  • Career development opportunities and access to mentorship.
  • Flexible, remote-friendly working environment.
  • Opportunity to contribute to innovative technologies and business-critical integration solutions.
  • Collaborative and collegial engineering culture that values quality, ownership, mentorship, and innovation.
  • Exposure to modern distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, microservices, event-driven technologies, and advanced integration platforms.
  • An environment that encourages engineers to influence technical decisions and take ownership of their systems end-to-end.
  • Inclusive workplace committed to equal employment opportunities and a diverse, supportive culture.
