The Opportunity

We’re looking for an Inside Sales Engineer to serve as a key technical partner to our commercial HVAC sales team and customers.

You'll serve as the day-to-day technical and project partner to an Outside Sales Engineer, taking projects from initial design and equipment selection through estimating, proposals, submittals, ordering, and delivery. You'll learn our manufacturers and product lines, build a strong understanding of commercial HVAC applications, and help customers find the right solution for each project.

This role combines engineering, project coordination, customer interaction, and sales support. Your Outside Sales Engineer and ICS leadership will jointly support and guide your work, performance, compensation, professional development, and career growth, creating clear accountability and a strong partnership across the sales team.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Outside Sales Engineer assigned to your team to align daily priorities and support commercial HVAC opportunities from initial design and estimating through order, delivery, and project completion.
  • Work within a shared management model in which the Outside Sales Engineer provides day-to-day direction, coaching, and feedback while partnering with ICS leadership on performance, compensation, professional development, and long-term career growth.
  • Review mechanical plans, specifications, schedules, and other project documents to understand design intent and equipment requirements.
  • Select and apply HVAC equipment based on project specifications, performance requirements, customer needs, and manufacturer capabilities.
  • Prepare accurate equipment estimates, pricing, quotations, and proposals.
  • Identify potential design alternatives and value-engineering opportunities that improve performance, cost, lead time, or overall project value.
  • Coordinate equipment selections, pricing, availability, lead times, and technical requirements with manufacturers and internal teams.
  • Prepare and coordinate technical submittals, product data, and other project documentation.
  • Support customers and the sales team with product applications, technical questions, equipment comparisons, and solution recommendations.
  • Communicate regularly with contractors, consulting engineers, manufacturers, and other project stakeholders to keep projects moving and address questions or changes.
  • Support technical presentations and customer meetings as needed.
  • Assist with order entry and ensure project information is accurate and complete before equipment is released.
  • Track multiple projects and sales opportunities simultaneously, maintaining accurate information on pricing, equipment, schedules, and project status.
  • Work with manufacturers, operations, logistics, and other ICS teams to help coordinate equipment delivery and resolve project issues.
  • Investigate technical or project concerns, identify solutions, and communicate clearly with customers and internal teams through resolution.
  • Maintain accurate project, customer, and opportunity information within company systems.
  • Continue developing knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, applications, ICS product lines, manufacturers, and industry practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; all engineering disciplines will be considered.
  • HVAC, mechanical systems, engineering, estimating, construction, technical sales, or project management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability and interest to learn commercial HVAC equipment, systems, and applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical plans, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
  • Customer-focused approach and the ability to build productive relationships with contractors, engineers, manufacturers, customers, and internal teams.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of assignments while working closely with an Outside Sales Engineer and broader project team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn CRM, ERP, equipment-selection, and other technical software.
  • Familiarity with CAD, HVAC selection software, MEP design, mechanical contracting, or commercial construction is a plus.
