Job Description

TaxWell is seeking an accomplished Senior Data Analyst to support our product and marketing teams. In this role, you will report to the Director of Analytics and focus primarily on product analytics—uncovering insights through deep funnel analysis, user behavior investigation, anomaly detection, and data storytelling. This is a hands-on, investigative role where you dig into performance data, find the signal in the noise, and help stakeholders understand what is working and what is not.

You will play a critical role in translating complex behavioral, customer journey, funnel, and feature usage data into meaningful insights that inform product strategy, user engagement optimization, and marketing performance. Experience with marketing analytics (campaign performance, paid media, attribution) is a plus, but product analytics will be the primary focus of this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigate user behavior, customer journey, and conversion funnels across product touchpoints to identify trends, anomalies, and drop-off patterns.
  • Partner with product managers to define and track performance KPIs, evaluate feature adoption, and support data-informed product decisions.
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights that guide product optimization, landing page improvements, and user experience enhancements.
  • Collaborate with marketing operations and product teams to connect funnel insights across the full customer journey.
  • Design and build custom dashboards in Tableau (or similar) to support ongoing performance monitoring and exploratory analysis.
  • Write and refine SQL queries to extract, clean, and analyze large datasets—especially across digital engagement, conversion events, and behavioral data.
  • Perform exploratory analysis to uncover unexpected patterns, detect data integrity issues, and recommend solutions or next steps.
  • Support A/B testing analysis, attribution modeling, and ongoing campaign evaluation as needed.
  • Analyze large data sets of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data to discover insights and collaborate with business partners to deliver business value.
  • Prepare and effectively present findings to business stakeholders, including executive management, in a concise fashion.
  • Leverage AI-assisted analytics tools (e.g., tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT Codex) to accelerate analysis, improve data exploration, and enhance data storytelling—while maintaining analytical rigor and data quality standards.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, accounting, economics, statistics, information science, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of proven working experience as a data analyst, business data analyst, or similar role.
  • Strong emphasis on B2C product analytics, including user behavior analysis, funnel investigation, and feature or journey performance.
  • Marketing analytics experience (paid search, display, brand and variable marketing, campaign performance, ROAS) is a plus.
  • Strong SQL skills, with proven experience querying and transforming large datasets for both ad-hoc analysis and dashboard use.
  • Expertise in Tableau or other BI tools to build insightful, scalable dashboards from scratch.
  • Demonstrated success in anomaly detection, funnel investigation, and actionable insight delivery.
  • Experience with performance metrics such as conversion rate, bounce rate, session duration, feature adoption, and retention; familiarity with ROAS and campaign metrics is a plus.
  • Practical experience using AI tools to support analytics workflows—such as accelerating SQL development, exploratory analysis, documentation, or insight synthesis. Familiarity with agentic or copilot-style analytics tools is a plus; given how recently these capabilities have become viable, formal "years of AI experience" is not expected.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information.
  • Some knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, R, SAS, SPSS, etc.) is desired.
  • Ability to deliver insights with creativity and pragmatism, ensuring a clear understanding of the "so what?" implications.
