Full description

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is searching for a COMSEC and Network Engineer in support of United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) and Combat Forces Command (CFC) Defensive Cyber Operations.

This role focuses on serving as a COMSEC and Network Engineer supporting Defensive Cyber Operations – Space (DCO-S). The engineer designs, implements, maintains, and troubleshoots secure network infrastructure and communications security capabilities that enable DCO-S mission systems and operational units. Has an in-depth understanding of DoD/USSF network architectures, cryptographic systems, and government-sector cybersecurity requirements, with sufficient hands-on expertise to sustain secure connectivity, COMSEC accountability, and network health in classified and operational environments. Provides technical support in collaboration with DCO-S operators, system administrators, ISSOs, and program stakeholders. This position may require privileged access and DoD 8570/8140 restrictions will apply.

Key responsibilities

Lead the contract program risk management process, including identification, analysis, prioritization, mitigation planning, and residual risk tracking.

· Design, configure, and maintain secure network infrastructure supporting DCO-S systems and operational sites.

· Manage COMSEC account activities, including key material handling, cryptographic device support, inventory, and accountability in accordance with applicable directives.

· Install, configure, manage, and sustain TACLANE encryptors, including keying when required, to support secure network connectivity.

· Implement and sustain network security controls, including firewalls, routers, switches, encryption devices, and related boundary protections.

· Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and cryptographic issues affecting mission systems and fielded capabilities.

· Support integration of DCO-S tools and sensors onto classified networks (e.g., SIPR, JWICS, or equivalent).

· Apply and validate STIG, SCAP, and configuration baseline requirements for network and COMSEC devices.

· Coordinate with site personnel, operators, and engineering teams to resolve network and COMSEC issues at enterprise and operational locations.

· Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, COMSEC inventories, and change activities.

· Support assessments of network health, availability, and security posture for internal and fielded DCO-S capabilities.

· Assist with planning and execution of network changes, upgrades, and sustainment activities while minimizing mission impact.

Desired skills/experience:

· Hands-on experience with enterprise and tactical network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, encryption equipment).

· Experience supporting COMSEC operations, key management, and cryptographic device sustainment.

· Familiarity with classified network environments and DoD cybersecurity requirements (STIGs, RMF, continuous monitoring).

· Ability to troubleshoot complex network and secure communications issues in operational settings.

· Experience supporting cyber or space mission systems is highly desirable.

· Strong documentation and coordination skills with operators, engineers, and security personnel.

· Ability to work independently while collaborating across program and operational teams.

Education/Certification Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

5+ years of relevant experience in network engineering, COMSEC support, or secure communications within a DoD, USSF, or federal environment.

Clearance:

Must possess a Top Secret with SCI eligibility. SAR/SAP experience highly desirable.

Location/Travel Requirements:

Place of work is Colorado Springs; remote work opportunity is limited. You may be required to travel periodically, less than 25%
