Shift Timings: This position will work Rotational shifts (Morning, Afternoon IST Hours)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of DBA Operations, the individual will be fully responsible for all technical matters related to Microsoft SQL Server databases, including but not limited to installation, upgrades, high availability/disaster recovery, performance tuning, security, and coordinating/executing all code and data migrations across on-premises and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Should have deep, hands-on expertise administering Microsoft SQL Server (2016 through 2022) in enterprise, multi-customer environments.
  • Must have advanced experience with SQL Server High Availability/Disaster Recovery technologies such as Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, and Replication.
  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances on-premises and on cloud platforms such as AWS RDS/EC2 and Azure SQL/Managed Instance.
  • Perform database refreshes, schema/table refreshes, and creation/management of logins, users, roles, and permissions.
  • Perform backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery (PITR) of databases, including validation of backup integrity.
  • Monitor database performance using native and third-party tools; identify and resolve blocking, deadlocking, and query performance issues.
  • Perform index maintenance, statistics updates, and query/execution plan tuning.
  • Lead and execute SQL Server patching and version upgrade activities with minimal downtime.
  • Participate in and lead disaster recovery (DR) planning, testing, and execution for customer environments.
  • Configure and maintain SQL Server Agent jobs, alerts, and automated maintenance plans.
  • Implement and maintain database security, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Row-Level Security, and auditing.
  • Work with development and application teams on database design review, capacity planning, and migration projects.
  • Open and manage support cases with Microsoft, AWS, and/or Azure as needed.
  • Work in flexible shifts as demanded by project or on-call requirements.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with clients via email and phone.
  • Work within a ticketing tool (e.g., ServiceNow) to track and resolve incidents and requests.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, multi-client environment.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of strong, hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA, supporting installation, configuration, administration, and performance tuning in production environments.
  • Proven experience with Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, and Mirroring.
  • Experience administering SQL Server in cloud environments such as AWS RDS/EC2 and/or Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance is highly desirable.
  • Strong experience with backup and recovery strategies, including native backups, third-party tools (e.g., Redgate, Quest LiteSpeed), and PITR.
  • Solid experience with performance monitoring and tuning, including execution plan analysis, indexing strategy, and wait-statistics analysis.
  • Experience with SQL Server security hardening, TDE, auditing, and compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell and T-SQL scripting for automation of routine DBA tasks.
  • Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and/or SSAS is a plus.
  • Experience supporting ERP or other mission-critical enterprise applications on SQL Server a plus.
  • Experience working in a managed-services or offshore/onshore delivery model supporting multiple customers concurrently.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, SentryOne/SQL Sentry, or Redgate Monitor a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for issues arising from day-to-day production operations.
  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively with diverse teams (application, network, infrastructure, and business users).
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics, or equivalent certification a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
