Full description

Description

OGD Equipment is the commercial new construction division of OGD, a fast-growing overhead door and dock equipment company that started in Texas in 2011. Since 2012, OGD Equipment has partnered with general contractors, developers, and architects to supply and install the doors and dock systems that keep commercial buildings running.

Our scope includes overhead sectional doors, rolling steel and fire doors, high-speed doors, loading dock equipment (levelers, seals, shelters, restraints), HVLS fans, and cold storage equipment. Projects range from single-bay retail and auto dealerships to schools and large distribution centers.

Position Overview:

The Assistant Project Manager / Estimator helps grow OGD Equipment's commercial new construction business and deliver the jobs we win. Working alongside a Senior Project Manager, you will spend about 80% of your time on estimating and business development support (finding projects, takeoffs, pricing, and bid follow-up) and about 20% managing the jobs you win from procurement through closeout.

Success is measured by bid volume and accuracy, how many of your quotes turn into awarded work, and on-time, on-budget delivery of your awarded projects. This is a learning role with the goal of moving into a Project Manager role within 18 to 36 months, where you will carry your own bookings and gross margin target.

Key responsibilities:

Estimating and business development support (about 80%)

  • Pursue new commercial project opportunities with GCs, developers, and architects
  • Scope overhead doors and dock equipment from plans/specs and prepare competitive proposals
  • Own the bid pipeline — track quotes, follow up consistently, and drive opportunities to award
  • Build lasting relationships that generate repeat and referral business
  • Support take-offs, pricing strategy, and negotiate scope/terms to win work while protecting margin

Project management of your awarded jobs (about 20%)

  • Own the projects you win from kickoff through final walkthrough and closeout, with a senior PM available for guidance
  • Prepare and track submittals (shop drawings, product data, fire-rating documentation) through approval
  • Release orders to manufacturers and manage lead times, deliveries, and site readiness
  • Coordinate with GCs and other trades on schedule and site requirements, including dock pits and embeds before concrete pours
  • Schedule and oversee installation crews and subcontractors, and visit jobsites to verify field conditions
  • Track budgets, change orders, pay applications, and retainage, and flag issues early
  • Maintain project documentation (submittals, RFIs, punch lists, O&M manuals, warranties) and report status to stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • At least 1 to 2 years of full-time work experience, in any industry, such as the trades, the military, customer-facing roles, or a construction-related job; construction sales, estimating, or project management experience is a plus
  • A proven record of showing up every day, ready to work, and following through on commitments; we value reliability and consistency as much as technical skill
  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications, or a strong drive to learn quickly
  • Strong aptitude for building relationships and an interest in winning work through bidding
  • Comfortable working toward goals in a fast-paced, pipeline-driven environment
  • Strong math, organization, communication, and follow-up skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Office-based; travel/jobsite visits as needed
