Head of DevOps
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Head of DevOps to take ownership of the reliability, quality, and consistency of the software delivery lifecycle, from CI/CD and release governance to observability and incident response.
This is primarily an internal engineering leadership role, focused on building reliable, repeatable, and scalable deployment processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening the engineering delivery function, improving operational stability, and ensuring consistent standards across multiple projects and teams.
You will lead the DevOps practice within a matrix delivery organization, supporting both dedicated-team and shared-resource project models. While the primary focus will be on internal processes, tooling, and team leadership, the role will also involve occasional collaboration with client technical teams on infrastructure and deployment-related topics.
Key Responsibilities
Internal: SDLC Quality & Deployment Reliability
- Own the end-to-end
CI/CD strategy across product lines and client engagements, ensuring reliable, consistent, and low-risk software releases.
- Establish and implement
deployment governance standards, including environment promotion, release approvals, rollback procedures, and change management.
- Improve the reliability
of shared-resource delivery models by developing repeatable, self-service tools and processes that reduce dependency on individual engineers.
- Build and continuously
improve observability practices, including logging, monitoring, alerting, and tracing, to reduce the time required to detect and resolve production issues.
- Collaborate with
Technology Team Leads across Mobile, Web, and Backend, as well as the QA Lead, to introduce quality controls earlier in the software development lifecycle.
- Oversee
infrastructure-as-code, environment provisioning, and secrets and configuration management practices across client environments.
- Lead root-cause
analyses of deployment and production incidents, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented and followed through to completion.
- Lead, manage, and
develop the DevOps team, including direct reports and engineers working across shared project teams.
- Own DevOps hiring,
tooling strategy, and capacity planning, ensuring the function can scale alongside new client engagements.
Client Collaboration: Technical Partnership
- Participate in
technical discussions with client teams when deployment, infrastructure, or operational topics arise, contributing expertise and practical insights.
- Provide technical input
and a second opinion on release management, deployment, and change-management approaches when required.
- Occasionally contribute
to pre-sales and onboarding discussions, providing technical context on platform deployment and operations.
What You Bring
· 8+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
· Proven experience improving deployment reliability, CI/CD processes, and software delivery standards.
· Strong knowledge of at least one CI/CD tool (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or TeamCity), including pipeline configuration and maintenance.
· Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, OpenShift, or AWS ECS).
· Good knowledge of the .NET Framework and proficiency in Bash or PowerShell scripting.
· Experience with infrastructure-as-code, observability, and deployment automation tools such as Octopus Deploy.
· Experience in regulated environments, preferably product based.
· Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing distributed teams and working in a matrix organization.
A Plus to Have
- Previous experience
working with digital banking, financial services platforms, or core-banking-adjacent solutions.
- Familiarity with the
Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) or similar operational resilience frameworks.
- Experience working in
an environment where deployment governance is a formalized and audited process.
What Success Looks Like in the First 6–9 Months
- A measurable reduction
in deployment-related incidents and rollback rates across active projects.
- A documented,
repeatable deployment governance framework adopted across both dedicated-team and shared-resource delivery models.
- A clear DevOps team and
tooling roadmap that supports new client onboarding and business growth without creating operational bottlenecks.
- Stronger collaboration
and trust between the DevOps function, engineers, and Technology Team Leads, with a shared focus on identifying and resolving potential issues before they reach production.
