Product Messaging is the highest-volume communication channel on HighLevel's Phone Platform, and RCS (Rich Communication Services) represents its next major evolution. RCS upgrades the SMS experience into a branded, interactive, app-like channel: verified senders, rich cards, carousels, suggested replies, high-resolution media, read receipts, and typing indicators, delivered natively in the default messaging app on both Android and iOS.HighLevel's RCS product sits at the intersection of channel strategy, carrier and aggregator ecosystems, compliance, and monetization. It spans sender/agent registration and brand verification, rich message composition and templating, intelligent SMS/MMS fallback orchestration, delivery and engagement analytics, and usage-based pricing. As RCS reaches general availability across our ecosystem, this product line is central to how millions of businesses differentiate their customer conversations, and to how HighLevel grows messaging revenue, engagement, and retention across the platform.
Role Overview
As Senior Product Manager for RCS & Rich Messaging, you will own the strategy, execution, and growth of HighLevel's RCS product line, from sender onboarding and carrier readiness through rich messaging experiences, fallback logic, analytics, market expansion, and monetization. This is a channel-ownership role with platform-level scope. You will define what "great RCS" looks like for agencies and SMBs, drive adoption from early GA to mainstream usage, expand RCS availability into new markets and regions, and shape how rich messaging interoperates with SMS, MMS, and future conversational channels. You will work deeply with the carrier and aggregator ecosystem (Google RBM, messaging aggregators, and downstream providers) and translate a fast-moving standards landscape into a reliable, compliant, revenue-generating product. You will collaborate with Engineering, Design, Compliance, Finance, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success to bring RCS capabilities to market, reduce onboarding friction, and build the business case and pricing architecture for rich messaging at scale. This role is ideal for a product manager who combines strong execution with commercial judgment, is comfortable operating in an emerging ecosystem where the rules are still being written, and wants to own a channel with clear line of sight to platform revenue.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Channel Ownership
- Own the end-to-end RCS roadmap: sender registration and verification, rich messaging capabilities, fallback orchestration, analytics, market expansion, and pricing.
- Define the adoption strategy for RCS across the customer base, including segmentation, activation triggers, and migration paths from SMS/MMS.
- Track the evolving RCS ecosystem (carrier launches, Google RBM capabilities, Apple/iOS support, aggregator offerings, regional availability) and translate it into roadmap decisions.
- Establish where RCS wins versus SMS, MMS, and WhatsApp, and where it does not, and encode that judgment into product defaults and customer guidance.
Market Expansion
- Own the RCS market expansion roadmap: assess carrier readiness, device penetration, regulatory requirements, and commercial viability by country and region.
- Define launch criteria and phased rollout plans for new markets, including provider selection, pricing localization, and compliance requirements per region.
- Partner with aggregators and providers to secure coverage, favorable economics, and reliable delivery in target markets.
- Prioritize market entry based on addressable customer base, messaging volume potential, unit economics, and competitive positioning.
- Coordinate cross-functional readiness for each market launch across Engineering, Compliance, Billing, Support, and Go-To-Market teams.
Onboarding, Registration & Compliance
- Own and continuously improve the RCS sender/agent registration and brand verification experience, minimizing time-to-first-message and approval friction.
- Partner with Compliance and carrier/aggregator partners on messaging policy, content requirements, opt-in/opt-out standards, and verification workflows.
- Design safeguards and review processes that protect deliverability and sender reputation as volume scales.
Rich Messaging Experience
- Define the composition, templating, and campaign experiences for rich cards, carousels, suggested replies/actions, and media messaging.
- Own fallback logic and channel orchestration, ensuring graceful degradation to SMS/MMS with predictable cost, formatting, and delivery behavior.
- Partner with Design to make rich messaging accessible to non-technical SMB users, not just sophisticated senders.
Monetization & Business Performance
- Develop and maintain RCS pricing and packaging, including per-message and conversation-based models, in partnership with Finance and Leadership.
- Analyze unit economics across providers, message types, and markets; own margin visibility and cost-optimization opportunities for the channel.
- Define and track success metrics: sender activation, message volume, engagement (read/interaction rates), revenue, margin, and retention impact.
- Build business cases for channel expansion, new capabilities, and regional rollouts.
Go-To-Market & Adoption
- Partner with Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and Enablement on positioning, launch planning, packaging recommendations, and rollout strategy.
- Create and maintain product documentation, launch materials, and internal enablement resources.
- Drive post-launch iteration based on adoption data, customer feedback, and engagement performance.
Data & Customer Insights
- Use usage analytics, experimentation, customer interviews, and market research to inform product decisions.
- Investigate delivery performance, engagement patterns, and adoption blockers through data-driven analysis.
- Define instrumentation requirements so engagement and delivery analytics are first-class product surfaces for customers, not just internal telemetry.
Requirements
- 7+ years of Product Management experience in SaaS, CPaaS, telecom, platform, or related technology environments.
- Proven track record of shipping and scaling customer-facing products from concept to launch, ideally including a product in an emerging or fast-evolving ecosystem.
- Strong understanding of messaging channels and their economics (SMS/MMS at minimum; RCS, WhatsApp, or other rich/conversational channels strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated experience with pricing, packaging, monetization, or usage-based business models.
- Experience navigating external partner ecosystems, such as carriers, aggregators, platform providers, or comparable third parties whose roadmaps constrain your own.
- Experience launching or expanding products into new markets or regions, including readiness assessment and phased rollouts.
- Strong analytical skills with experience leveraging SQL, BI tools, dashboards, or product analytics platforms.
- Ability to balance customer needs, technical constraints, compliance requirements, and business objectives in product decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong ownership mindset with a bias toward execution, accountability, and measurable outcomes.
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments with multiple concurrent initiatives.
Nice-to-Have
- Direct experience with RCS Business Messaging (Google RBM), agent registration, or rich messaging products.
- Knowledge of A2P messaging compliance, sender registration frameworks (e.g., 10DLC), carrier ecosystems, and deliverability management.
- Familiarity with messaging aggregators and multi-provider routing architectures.
- Experience with channel fallback/orchestration logic across SMS, MMS, RCS, or OTT channels.
- Experience with international messaging markets, regional carrier ecosystems, or global provider negotiations.
- Experience with usage-based billing systems, margin analysis, and revenue growth initiatives.
- Strong technical fluency around APIs, webhooks, event-driven systems, and platform architectures.
- Experience operating in remote, globally distributed teams.
- Prior experience in high-growth B2B SaaS companies serving SMBs, agencies, or enterprise customers.
