Full description

Description

The Engineering Manager leads PSD's software engineering team of .NET and React developers, QA, and specialized roles, including building energy simulation, and is responsible for the team's people, delivery, quality, and day-to-day operations.

PSD's software supports utility energy efficiency programs, and the team delivers both product development and contracted client work. This role oversees the process that turns that demand into predictable sprint commitments, working with the Product Manager and Delivery Managers on priorities and with the Software Architect on technical direction. Because clients rely on PSD's energy models and program data, this person treats calculation and data accuracy as a core part of quality.

The role is mostly people and delivery leadership, with limited hands-on work, and requires strong communication across business units and a commitment to software craftsmanship.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years in software development, including designing and building enterprise software.
  • 2+ years of experience managing software engineers.
  • Strong technical skills: able to review code, assess design and architecture decisions, and engage credibly with engineers on implementation details.
  • Strong working knowledge of agile software development and hands-on experience running Scrum (certification such as CSM or PSM is a plus).
  • Hands-on experience applying AI tools across the SDLC, including spec-driven development, AI-assisted coding, testing and QA, and backlog refinement.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD (build and deployment pipelines, environment promotion, release management) and automated testing strategy (unit test coverage, integration testing, and end-to-end frameworks such as Cypress).
  • Experience with defect tracking and production support: triage, prioritization, severity classification, and seeing issues through to resolution.
  • Experience leading a remote or distributed team.

Desired Traits

  • Strong .NET/C# enterprise development background. React, Python, or Ruby experience is a plus.
  • Experience with calculation-heavy or data-critical software, such as engineering or energy software.
  • Experience retiring or migrating legacy systems.
  • Experience balancing product development with client-funded work, and understanding business processes and client needs.
  • Experience leading a team's adoption of AI tools and measuring its impact on delivery and quality.
  • Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001 or a similar compliance audit.
  • Interest in or exposure to energy efficiency, building science or utility programs.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive, commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience.
