Full-Stack Python Developer

For our partner company, Essensium, we are looking for a Portal developer (Python, Web APIs, JavaScript, CSS) to join their R&D team. It's an in-house role, a combination of building web applications and backend data storing, monitoring and encrypting.

Essensium is a growing product company. We design, produce, sell and service the Essensium Positioning System (EPS), a real-time positioning system for forklifts based on computer vision and AI (SafeTrackTM). We are a stable, healthy company with a flat, no-nonsense culture, and we do everything in-house, 100% in Belgium.

• Location: Leuven, Belgium - hybrid, 3d/office, 2d/home

• Contract: full-time permanent, we are looking for a long-term collaboration

• Start date: ASAP (end October - early November)

• Main tech stack: Python, asyncio, CSS, Javascript, Linux. 3+ years of experience.

Skills and tech stack (most important first)

• Python, asyncio

• JavaScript / TypeScript

• Vue 3 (or another modern component framework)

• HTTP(S), WebSockets, REST APIs

• Linux, Git

• Fluent English

• Nice to haves: numpy / pandas (statistics, time-series data), networking and TLS, Linux server administration, web security, data visualisation, HTML / CSS, a degree in computer science, Dutch or French

The role The EPS Portal is the dashboard for our customers to use the EPS system, and our engineers use it to manage the installed infrastructure. The backend collects, stores and analyses the real-time data streaming in from installations at customer sites. The frontend turns that data into live, clear insights for customers and our own team.

The portal is a mature, in-house codebase built mostly on our own components rather than large frameworks: Python with asyncio and aiohttp, our own streaming and storage layers, numpy for data processing, and Vue with TypeScript on the frontend. You will take ownership of it, so you need to enjoy understanding a system end to end, not just plugging libraries together.

• 3+ years in full stack development

• Product-minded: you care about what the user actually needs, not just the code

• Autonomous and systematic: you own features from design through to production

• A clear communicator with colleagues, field engineers and, when needed, customers

• Curious and happy to dive into an existing codebase
