Core Java Backend Developer - Assistant Vice President

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

As a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer at Citi, you will design, build, and evolve mission-critical application systems that support global technology and business operations. You will own full stack development across the software lifecycle, applying Core Java, Spring, ReactJS, and modern CI/CD practices to deliver secure, high-performing solutions. This role offers the opportunity to shape system design, mentor junior engineers, and work directly with business stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges.

 

Responsibilities

 

• Design and build full stack application solutions, guiding new and enhanced systems from feasibility studies through complete lifecycle delivery.
• Lead each phase of the development process, including analysis, design, coding, testing, and implementation, while providing ongoing operational support to business users.
• Analyze complex technical and business problems to evaluate system performance against industry standards and recommend practical solutions.
• Develop and implement security measures based on post-implementation reviews to strengthen system design and functionality.
• Partner with clients and technology teams to resolve issues and deliver advanced programming solutions for customer-facing systems.
• Define and maintain development standards and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery.
• Mentor junior developers and analysts, sharing technical expertise to strengthen team capability.
• Apply sound judgment to assess risk in technical decisions, helping safeguard systems, clients, and Citi's reputation.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

 

• Bring 8-12 years of applications development expertise, building full stack solutions with Core Java, Spring Framework, RESTful APIs, ReactJS, JavaScript, middleware technologies such as (Solace / Kafka), CI/CD pipelines.
• Manage end-to-end software delivery using AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot / Devin AI / Code buddy.
• Demonstrate command of core programming concepts, including object-oriented design, multi-threading, exception handling, collections, JDBC & apply proven design patterns where required.
• Build custom ReactJS components and integrate systems using XML, JSON, REST services, and relational databases such as Oracle or Sybase on UNIX platforms.
• Test Driven Development - Validate application quality using testing frameworks such as JUnit and TestNG, & AI assistants like Friday.AI, while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Draw on Foreign Exchange domain knowledge to support trading-related application development within financial services.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and agile development environment and to learn new frameworks/technology stacks.
• Hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
