The job
We are looking for a Data / AI Engineer to join AVEVA’s newly established AI & Digital Delivery hub in Kuala Lumpur. In this role, you will help deliver AI-first customer and partner experiences by designing and implementing production-ready AI features across global and regional platforms. You will work with Azure OpenAI, Alibaba Tongyi Qianwen / PAI, RAG pipelines, and MCP-based agent workflows to support capabilities such as assisted onboarding, intelligent data intake, exception handling, and AI-powered SaaS augmentation.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement AI-powered features for the Unified Partner Experience, including assisted intake, onboarding automation, and exception handling.
- Build integrations with Azure OpenAI and Alibaba Tongyi Qianwen / PAI for global and regional AI capabilities.
- Develop MCP agents, tool integrations, and RAG pipelines to support SaaS augmentation workflows.
- Build data pipelines for extraction, transformation, embedding generation, and vector storage.
- Implement prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, safety guardrails, and monitoring for production AI services.
Essential requirements
- Strong Python proficiency for data and AI engineering workloads.
- Hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI Service or OpenAI APIs, including chat completions, embeddings, and function calling.
- Experience building LLM-powered applications using RAG, agents, tool use, and prompt engineering.
- Solid understanding of vector databases, embedding models, and Python-based ETL / ELT data pipelines.
- 5–8 years of software or data engineering experience, including 2+ years focused on AI / ML in production.
Desired skills
- Experience with cloud AI services, Azure data / AI services, and API development using FastAPI, Flask, or ASP.NET.
- Knowledge of MCP, agentic AI patterns, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, multilingual AI models, or responsible AI practices.
- Curiosity and aspiration to experiment with emerging AI technologies while balancing innovation with reliability and cost awareness.
- Strong communication, collaboration, transparency, and trust-building skills, especially when explaining AI limitations, risks, and production trade-offs.
- Additional proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage, as the role may involve supporting stakeholders and business activities in Mandarin-speaking markets.
