Responsibilities

The Product Manager supports the customer experience as part of the Vendor Management team and is responsible for the overall strategy of their assigned product categories throughout the product’s life cycle. They monitor the current market and evolving customer needs to provide insights and recommendations related to products, pricing, promotions, and placement. The Product Manager researches new product options in the category to drive sales and achieve goals. This individual works closely with their team, external vendor partners and internal stakeholders including Sales, Marketing, Pricing, and Inventory Management to develop a comprehensive life cycle plan for products in their space.

Essential Job Function

1. Plans and manages the product life cycle for the assigned categories including product identification,placement, pricing, and promotion.2. Manages, cultivates and maintains relationships with external vendors. This includes researching toidentify the best products and pricing available. Collaborates with Johnstone Supply corporateProduct Managers on vendor initiatives and associated product promotions3. Analyzes and defines assigned product segment market for purposes of developing a marketing plan.Considers total market size, company market share, competitor market share and trends within themarket. Keeps abreast of market influencers.4. Creates marketing and sales initiatives that support Johnstone Supply's business objectives. Evaluates marketing and sales initiatives objectively from a market and financial standpoint. Develops programs, promotions, vendor class training, and other advertising means in support of launching products in the marketplace. Communicates with Sales and Marketing teams and branch management when implementing promotions, programs, and product rollouts.5. Works with Purchasing Department to recommend “in-stock” levels. Works in product data files toensure accuracy.6. Partners with and prompts discussions with Vendors to identify partnership goals and methods topromote products.7. Reviews product pricing in relationship to market demand, competition, and economic trends when considering programs and promotions.8. Partners with Regional Managers, Account Managers, Market Managers and Branch Managers tovisit customers for the purpose of developing and implementing programs.

9. Coaches and trains Branch and other personnel through sharing knowledge and providing productinformation. Provides subject matter expertise and support to other staff. May supervise personnelor processes as assigned.10. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years’ experience in a product management or marketing role required with HVAC/Rindustry experience preferred; prior experience in wholesale sales or marketing a plus.
  • High school degree of equivalent (i.e. G.E.D.) required; bachelor’s degree in marketing or similarfield preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills with ability to analyze varied data sets to draw conclusions and makerecommendations.
  • Ability to project manage and independently prioritize variety of deadlines, projects and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate proficiently in English in both verbal andwritten forms.
  • Proficiency with PC applications including the full suite of products within the Microsoft Office Suiteof Products; Eclipse ERP system knowledge preferred.
  • A heightened sense of teamwork, a solid work ethic and the ability to work under pressure is alsorequired.

Physical Demand

Typical office environment with standard working conditions at Branch Support Offices that requires standing, walking and sitting for prolonged periods of time. Visual acuity required for reading, producing reports, or doing computer work for extended periods of time. Limited, but some physical exertion and dexterity required in the course of daily activity that may require the ability to climb stairs, walking from place to place in a standard office environment, occasionally lifting or carrying supplies, books, etc. Auditory acuteness required to perform heavy volume of telephone and personal contacts on an individual, or group meeting level. Moderate volume of personal business travel (air or driving) of up to 25% on the local, state and national level.
