Description
The QA Team Lead is a player-coach responsible for day-to-day quality execution for a delivery team or product area. The Lead drives test design quality, coordinates sprint testing, ensures automation alignment, and removes blockers. This role may have direct reports, but the primary accountability is delivery quality and operational leadership within the team.
This is a hybrid remote role that requires onsite presence in Pittston, PA at least once every other month. Candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of either the Pittston, PA or Omaha, NE BHDIC office for required onsite meetings as needed in whichever BHDIC office is local to the employee.
Job Duties
- Lead sprint-level test planning, execution, and release readiness for an assigned scrum or product team.
- Facilitate early test design with BAs and POs, translating acceptance criteria into clear Gherkin scenarios and test coverage.
- Ensure test cases and validation plans are complete, reviewed, and aligned to delivery scope before development completes.
- Coordinate manual and automated testing across UI, API, integration, and end-to-end flows.
- Triaging, documenting, and driving defects to resolution with strong reproduction steps and impact analysis.
- Collaborate with automation engineers to prioritize automation opportunities and ensure stable CI execution.
- Provide clear status reporting (test progress, coverage, risks, blockers) to QA leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Mentor QA engineers on test design, domain knowledge, and effective defect investigation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in QA process, standards, and team operational hygiene.
Requirements
- 5+ years in software QA with demonstrated ownership of testing for complex features and releases.
- Strong test design skills including positive, negative, boundary, and integration scenarios.
- Working knowledge of automation concepts and collaboration with automation engineers (Playwright preferred).
- Experience in Agile delivery teams and tools (Azure DevOps preferred).
- Ability to lead without authority, coordinate across roles, and communicate risk clearly.
- Insurance domain experience preferred.

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided. The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $130,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
