About the job

This role will be part of Astronomer’s open-source engineering team, focused on implementing new Airflow features and components. As a member of the team, you’ll be at the forefront of the industry as we continue to make Apache Airflow the de facto standard for data orchestration.

Your focus will be on identifying, designing, developing, and implementing open-source software that improves the experience of data practitioners using Airflow.

Ideally, you’re someone who enjoys innovating, thinking big, and contributing directly to the success of Airflow. You should be comfortable working in a remote, distributed environment, actively promote knowledge sharing, and be open to collaborating with other teams to broaden your domain knowledge and impact.

You’ll also have the opportunity to engage with developers and committers from the Apache Airflow project, a thriving open-source community with thousands of contributors around the world.

What You Bring To The Role

  • Proven experience as a Python developer with 5+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and explore new ideas
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex issues
  • Strong knowledge of building scalable and distributed systems
  • A proactive approach to learning and staying updated with industry trends
  • Good at writing unit tests, and an appreciation of different forms of automated testing
  • Recognize the importance of cooperation and encourage it by being a good listener, sharing information, and offering support and feedback
  • Communication skills that allow you to know what to say and, more importantly, how to say it in various mediums (Github, Slack, Zoom, email, pair programming sessions)

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with Apache Airflow in production environments
  • Data Engineering experience
  • Contributions to Open Source projects
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes & Docker
  • Built and maintained CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with React
